Thank you, @native_forward, for inviting us to participate in the Central New Mexico Student Success Convening this August. 🎓

Deputy Secretary Trujillo and Indian Education Director Nathana Bird participated in a panel discussion highlighting the importance of addressing students’ basic needs, expanding access to higher education, and connecting students with the resources and support they need to thrive throughout their college journey.

Financial Aid Outreach Coordinator Chandler Farnsworth also shared information about New Mexico’s tuition-free college programs and the financial aid opportunities available through the state. Providing students and families with clear information about these resources is an important part of ensuring that cost does not stand in the way of pursuing a college education.

Events like this create valuable opportunities to learn from one another, share resources and strengthen the partnerships that help New Mexico students access higher education, persist through college, and prepare for successful careers.

In 2023, I took a leadership course that asked me, what’s my life’s purpose? The only thought I had was to serve my people. In 1978, Congress passed the American Indian Religious Freedom Act. That was only 48 years ago. That act gave everyone the opportunity to practice without being punished. My people went through generations of being told that our ceremonies, languages, beliefs, and ways of life were something to leave behind and yet, we are still here. That history is part of why my education and the work I choose to do mean so much to me. Every door I walk through isn’t just about what I can accomplish for myself. I think about my grandma. I think about my children. I think about the Native kids who deserve to see themselves represented in education, leadership, and spaces my ancestors never had the opportunity to enter. Maybe serving my people doesn’t have to be one grand act. Maybe it’s using every opportunity I have to leave the path a little wider for my relatives who are on their way. 🖤❤️🤍💛

Native Forward at the 2026 @santafeindianmarket 👏

Native Forward CEO @angeliquealbert1 joined Gimiwan Dustin Burnette of @miin.ojibwe and @tashinabanksrama of @mahpiyalutaredcloud for the @betterwayfoundation panel, “The Education Arc: From Early Childhood Education to Higher Education.” The conversation focused on how sustained investment, shared learning, and Indigenous leadership can strengthen Native-led education and create lasting impact in Native communities.

The week also featured a conversation on the Land Back movement, hosted by Native Forward Board Member Rohit Menezes through the @thebridgespangroup podcast. Rohit was joined by @dallasgoldtooth @jodi1archambault and @khapoalvin to discuss the movement, its significance, and the continued importance of Native leadership in conversations about sovereignty.

We are grateful to the partners and leaders who continue to advance meaningful collaboration and greater opportunity across Indian Country.

Today, Grace had the opportunity to attend the AIR IS LIFE Níłch’i éi bee iiná Navajo Youth Conference as Miss Kinsey Ambassador of 2025-2026💙

She got to meet and visit with the candidates for the Navajo Nation presidential race during the youth-led presidential forum. It was such a great experience for her to see our youth leading important conversations and encouraging civic engagement.

The conference was organized by Navajo youth who are advocating for tobacco-free communities and making a positive impact across the Navajo Nation. I’m so proud of Grace for representing our community and for getting to be part of such a meaningful day.

These are the kinds of experiences that help shape our future leaders. So proud of her! 🤍✨
