✨ Walking with Toonkoo and Ngaardi ✨

Our learning environment has been thoughtfully created around the beautiful local Yuin story of Toonkoo and Ngaardi , inviting children to explore through storytelling, imagination and open-ended play.

Using felt landscapes, native animals, loose parts and natural materials, children are encouraged to revisit the story, make connections with Country and deepen their understanding of the rich culture and history of the land on which we live, learn and play.

A special thank you to Natalie Bateman for allowing us to showcase her stunning artwork, which beautifully brings this local story to life and enriches our learning environment.

Through meaningful play, we hope to foster curiosity, respect and a lifelong appreciation for the stories and knowledge of Yuin Country.

❤️💛🖤

New favourite spot on Clovelly Rd.

New alfresco parklet outside @tuga.x.village. Love it! A few extra seats, a bit more street life, and artwork from @nats_artwork to look at while you sip your coffee.

Small change, big difference. Exactly the kind of thing that makes a street feel like a village.

Support for local business, a bit of local art, and somewhere nice to sit.

Grab a Tuga pastry and check it out.

Announcing the winner of the 2025 First Nations Artist Award - a $2,000 cash prize sponsored by The Tall Foundation and Kitchen King Grocers, is Yuin artist Natalie Bateman for her artwork 'South Arm Tasmania', 2025. Watercolours posca pens acrylic on Hahnemühle paper, 80 x 106 cm.

"I get all sorts of ideas from everyday living, most of these ideas come from the land, the incredible colour, shapes & patterns in everything around, the smells, sounds, & the stories passed down from my elders. With the love from my family, sharing of knowledge, respecting our cultural ways, being part of our family kinship, all this beauty gets put into my paintings as some sort of story. Using line work is our Yuin cultural way, I enjoy playing with colour and using them in a way that uplifts people." - Natalie Bateman

Please follow Natalie to see more of her work and comment below to congratulate her winning artwork! @nats_artwork

🖼 An abstract artwork with turquoise, white, brown, forrest green and light orange has been painted in watercolours. Rugged lines that mimic a horizon have been drawn with white and brown paint markers and stretch from the left to right edge of the artwork. The lines are similar to water ripples or lines in sand at the beach. A thick green line in the top third of the artwork looks like a view of a bay from a distance, there are small lines depicting trees on the green section.

We are deeply relieved to confirm ANU has withdrawn proposed forced redundanciesas outlined in current Renew change proposals, which have been affecting so many dedicated staff across the university. Directly implicated were positions currently held by @amandiblesstuart and @ejseccombe which would have seen the removal of the Environment Studio's 2 on Country electives and its Sharing Stories Arts Exchanges in their current form, as well as the demise of the Foundation Studio.

We see this significant news as a direct result of the power of our community pushing back for what they believe in and want in tertiary education and outreach initiatives, going forward.

Our deep thanks go out to all of you who have supported this vision and generosity of First Nations and non-indigenous staff and contributors that make our courses possible for students and community creatives.

To all of you who have spoken out in support, shared, written letters, attended rallies, signed petitions and come together on our behalf - you have our enduring and heartfelt gratitude.

A glimpse of an unbelievably rich weekend for 2025's (possibly last) Balawan Elective - first field trip on Yuin Country. We traversed torrential rain, found fab new exhibition space @thebascentre, landed with joy back to sunny Jigamy Farm @twofoldjigamy and wallowed in the bountiful joys of Beowa National Park #alwayswasalwayswillbe🖤💛❤️ ...always acknowledging those incredible First Nations collaborators and knowledge holders that make these unique, VC Award winning initiatives possible @aidan.hartshorn @yalbangarra_alisonsimpsonart @d.r.i.f.t.o.y.s.t.e.r.s @sh.ane9695 @yandama.on.country @anuartdesign @soadcollectiveanu
Still time to respond (7th August) to the CASS ANU Renew Change Plan that plan to erase this, as we know it.
