Featured Entries | Cycle II

This week’s Featured Entries bring together five painters whose works approach figuration, memory, intimacy, and the everyday through distinctly personal visual languages.

Moving between narrative scenes, portraiture, symbolism, and still life, these works transform familiar subjects into psychologically and emotionally charged images. Moments of friendship and domestic life sit alongside more dreamlike and symbolic encounters with flowers, bodies, objects, and interior spaces. Across the selection, color, gesture, and materiality create images that feel at once deeply personal and open-ended.

Together, these five works reflect the breadth of contemporary painting today, where observation and invention, tenderness and unease, and lived experience and imagination can coexist within a single image.

Featured artists:

Johanna Seidel — @_johannaseidel
Natalie Jacobs — @nattty.lite
Tatyna Polyak — @aart_by_t
Celia Thomas — @celiabangsthomas
Kara Mitton — @karamitton

We’re excited to continue sharing selected entries from Cycle II of The Meridian Award.

Applications for Cycle II are currently open.
Deadline: October 15, 2026

Birds and sweeping tree branches appear above and around the vehicle, creating a dreamlike atmosphere in warm, muted tones of green, brown, orange, and yellow.
