POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I went back to Baylor this weekend for Black Alumni Weekend thinking I was just going to have a good time, see some familiar faces, cheer on my Bears and spend some time with family.

I didn’t realize how much I needed it.

I’ve felt a little heavier lately. A little more emotional. A little more tender. And I couldn’t completely understand why until it hit me that the anniversary of my sister’s passing is this week.

Grief is strange like that.

Sometimes it doesn’t announce itself. It just quietly sits beside you until something finally makes you realize, “Oh. That’s what this is.”

So this weekend became more than a football game.

It was laughing with my family. Being together. Loving on each other. Remembering where I came from. And, in so many little moments, feeling like my sister was right there with us.

There was grief there, but there was also so much joy.

And maybe that’s one of the things I’m continuing to learn in this season of life: we don’t always have to choose between the two. Sometimes healing looks like allowing ourselves to hold both.

I’m really grateful for this weekend. 💚💛

And on a much lighter note 😂 y’all have been asking about this outfit since I posted it in my stories. The whole look is from Amazon, so I linked it for you. 🫶🏾

POV: summer in Louisiana still feels like home.

Even after loss.
Even after life change.
Even after hard seasons.

We still let the good times roll!

Crawfish boils.
Late nights.
Zydeco.
Crying until we laugh, and laughing until we cry.
Kids outside until dark.

And somehow… feeling my dad and sister in all of it.

Watching Ezzie fall in love with Louisiana the same way we did makes my heart so full. He stayed outside. Stayed up late. Ate ketchup without a flare. (IYKYK) Laughed with family. Just lived.

Not perfect.
But better.
And honestly, that’s enough for me right now.

What or where is it that just gives you that summer nostalgia?

Jumping on this 2016 throwback trend because 2016 was truly unforgettable!

It was the year that closed one chapter and opened a whole new one. We said farewell to our D.C. life and kicked off our new beginning in Texas. We (truly a team effort) planned (and executed) a bridal shower in Natchitoches, bachelorette party in Montego Bay, our wedding in Dallas, a cross country move from DC to Austin, Travis started his MBA program, and we honeymooned during Christmas break in Mauritius and South Africa! Whew chile!

It was a wild ride of endings, new beginnings, and a whole lot of beautiful memories that shaped the decade that followed. Cheers to nearly 10 years since that unforgettable year!

Still smiling from my 40th birthday parade! 😉🥳

Family, friends, good food, laughter, dancing in the street and a firework finale that felt like the universe giving me the biggest birthday shoutout. ✨💥

Grateful for every single moment.
This one goes in the forever memory bank.

This year almost slipped by without a birthday celebration for my baby (big) boy. Usually for his birthday we’ve been traveling or I’ve been too deep in a grief wave to muster up the energy to throw a party. With the craziness of our life’s journey this year, I thought maybe we’ll just try again next year. But all Ezzie ever asked for was a “family party.” No big show, no gifts…just some of the people he loves most.

And that’s exactly what he got. His favorite part? Not the decorations, not the gifts… it was “My family, and my gluten free cake”.

Hosting it on the anniversary of my Dad’s passing brought unexpected healing. My family needed that time together. On our way back home, Travis expressed how amazing I was for managing to throw together a last minute party in the midst of the chaos that is our life right now.

I didn’t realize how much it would mean until I sat back, days later, and felt the blessing of it all.

“In the middle of life’s storms, celebrating love and joy is how we remember what truly matters.”

From the very first time I asked Ezzie this spring what kind of birthday party he wanted, his answer never changed: “a family party.”

We celebrated his birthday this year on the anniversary of my Dad’s passing, and it turned out to be exactly what our hearts needed: to be together, to laugh, to celebrate, and to remember what matters most, just like old times.

Ezzie even wanted to make a little speech. He stood up proudly and said, “Thank you everyone for coming to my house (his Tee Tee’s house🤭)”. When I asked him later what his favorite part of the day was, his answer was simple and pure: “my family.” Not the cake, not the gifts, not the decorations…just family.

This year has brought its challenges, but the joy in his smile reminded me that love and togetherness are some of the greatest gifts of all. 💛

Happy birthday to my built-in bestie, my sister, my soul mirror.

You’ve walked through more in these past few years than anyone ever should. And yet, somehow, you still show up for others with tenderness, transparency, and a heart wide open.

Your honesty, your strength, your willingness to show up — even when it’s hard — inspire me more than you know.

You encourage others even when you’re walking through your own valleys, and that kind of heart is rare.

I pray this is the year of ease, of joy, of overflowing goodness. You deserve every bit of it….and more!

I love you and can’t wait to celebrate with you in a few days!!! 🫶🏾
