In the July 2026 issue of Health Food Business magazine @healthfoodbusiness out now, Oliver McCabe highlights the critical momentum of Ireland’s Save Our Supplements campaign against proposed EU-wide harmonisation laws that threaten to drastically reduce the maximum permitted potencies of essential vitamins and minerals. The current SaveOurSupplements.ie campaign, addresses proposed EU regulations that threaten the availability of high-strength vitamins, minerals, herbs and botanicals across Irish retail shelves. We took a trip across Ireland to speak with the owners, staff, and customers at independent health stores @evergreenhealthfoods Galway, @organicobantry , and @the_aquarian_healthstore Cahersiveen, members of @health_stores_ireland
Nationwide, the message is exactly the same:
Health isn’t one size fits all, and our wellbeing is not for compromise.
The Threat to Potency: Proposed EU wide Maximum Permitted Levels could drastically slash the strength of daily essentials like Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Magnesium and Zinc. Many doses will be reduced to levels too low to offer any practical therapeutic benefit.
Widespread Deficiencies: Over 80% of Irish adults responsibly use supplements to support their wellness. Drastically cutting limits on products like Vitamin D directly ignores the specific, widespread deficiency needs of the Irish population due to our climate.
Restriction of Traditional Herbs: Beyond vitamins, the directive threatens to restrict or remove over 100 traditional herbs & botanicals including widely trusted remedies like Ashwagandha limiting natural health alternatives.
Protecting Health Freedom: This campaign is a pushback against safe, effective products being diluted, banned, or hidden behind expensive prescriptions. It protects a consumer’s fundamental right to make informed, autonomous choices regarding their own body and wellbeing.

It was an absolute privilege to return to host a nutritious food demonstration for the incredible medical teams at the Rotunda Hospital @rotundahospital for their IBEC Workplace Wellbeing Day 2026. Having spent time with the staff, it’s clear that the Rotunda already sets a very high bar for healthy eating and wellness; it was inspiring to engage with a group that truly understands the value of nutrition.
