POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We often imagine artists as people who are endlessly inspired, naturally gifted, or bound by a single style.

But behind every finished work is something far more human: curiosity, discipline, doubt, experimentation, and the courage to begin again.

In this conversation, artists from NaWei Gallery, Aliver Escaño, @namiartgallery , and @ang.karatula reflect on the assumptions they hope more people would question—from who gets to call themselves an artist, to the pressure to stay the same, follow every rule, or create only when inspiration strikes.

Their perspectives remind us that art is not about perfection or fitting into one definition. It is a continuous process of paying attention, taking risks, making mistakes, and finding meaning in the work as it unfolds.

What is one belief about art or artists that you think deserves to be challenged?

📍TOPS, Cebu

Incredibly proud to see Shanghai Tang @shanghaitang spotlighting homegrown talent in celebration of #SG60. Their latest capsule, “Drift & Reign,” is a bold collaboration with Nawei @nawei.wright — a 24-year-old artist whose raw, hybrid ink brushworks explore identity, heritage, and the East-West experience. This powerful fusion of tradition and contemporary artistry is more than a collection — it’s a tribute to the spirit of experimentation, cultural dialogue, and creative collaboration. Now available globally at all Shanghai Tang stores and online.
