Hamstring rehab should look like more than stretching and a few hamstring curls.

In the acute stages, the goal is to appropriately introduce load, restore movement, and begin rebuilding the hamstring’s capacity without overloading healing tissue.

Early rehab may focus on:

• Pain-tolerable hamstring loading
• Isometrics and progressive strengthening
• Restoring range of motion
• Hip extension and posterior-chain strength
• Gradually increasing load through different ranges and positions

But this is only the starting point.

As the athlete progresses, rehab should evolve to prepare the hamstring for the actual demands of sport:

• Higher-load eccentric strength
• Strength at longer muscle lengths
• Speed and rate of force development
• Running → faster running → sprint exposure
• Acceleration and deceleration
• Cutting and change of direction
• Sport-specific high-speed demands

The goal isn’t just to get the hamstring feeling better.

It’s to progressively rebuild its capacity from the early stages of healing all the way back to high-speed, high-force sport.

Rehab should prepare you for what you’re returning to.

Catcher Spotlight: Nick Biddle

Nick made a big jump from his freshman to sophomore season at Hofstra.

From the first day of fall practice, our focus was simple: control the running game and control the baseball. Nick bought into the process from day one and worked every day to improve.

The results speak for themselves:

📈 Caught Stealing %: 17% → 30%
🧱 Passed Balls: 6 → 0

As a catching coach, I take a lot of pride in helping catchers build confidence behind the plate and become complete defenders. Nick trusted the process, put in the work, and earned these results.

At Pelch Catching, we’re always looking for new ways to help catchers improve. We’re currently building our own Blocks Above Average model to better evaluate blocking and help players continue to develop.

Excited to watch Nick keep growing this season and continue working toward the next level.

I can go 0-4 with 4 k’s and guess what? I go home and the Bible still the exact same; I go 4-4 with 4 HR I go home and the Bible still the exact same. Jesus would never fail us, we are the only one that can fail him. Keep grinding. #year1✅ #wediefortheH
