Access to justice took another important step forward in Guilford County on Thursday, Aug. 13, as community partners gathered at the Guilford County Courthouse in Greensboro to celebrate the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Guilford County Legal Support Center’s Greensboro location. The center is the result of a close collaboration between Guilford County, Guilford County District Courts, and Court Support for Families, working together to make the court system easier to understand and navigate for residents who are representing themselves.

For someone facing a custody matter, protective order, housing dispute or another civil court issue without an attorney, simply knowing where to begin can be overwhelming. The Legal Support Center provides clear, court-approved information, assistance with legal forms and connections to other legal and community resources. While the center does not provide legal advice, it gives residents practical tools to better understand the process, while also helping reduce unnecessary delays in court proceedings.

District 7 Commissioner Frankie T. Jones, Jr. delivered remarks on behalf of Guilford County and reflected on the work and partnership that turned the idea into a reality. One of the most meaningful moments of the afternoon was the dedication of the Greensboro center in honor of retired Chief District Court Judge Teresa H. Vincent, whose vision and persistence helped launch the effort. Judge Vincent, was honored with the unveiling of a plaque recognizing her leadership and lasting contribution to expanding access to justice in our community.

The Guilford County Legal Support Center Greensboro location located in the Guilford County Courthouse L60 is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., while the High Point courthouse location at 505 E. Green Dr., Room 140, is open Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

As many of you may know, for the past nine months I have been mobilized to Texas as a Judge Advocate (JAG) with the 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, a NC Army National Guard unit based in Charlotte, NC. Operating as Task Force-Guardian under Joint Task Force-Southern Border, our mission was to safeguard the territorial integrity of the United States. I arrived home this weekend and my amazing clerks and interns had this surprise for me in my chambers at the NC Court of Appeals. They all did top-shelf legal research and writing which helped me keep cases moving so I could circulate opinions while mobilized. Glad to be home! #nccourts #ncpol #ncga

I sat down with WBTV’s Katy Solt for an in-depth conversation on House Bill 307 (Iryna’s Law) and its implications for Mecklenburg County’s courts, families, and mental health system.

Drawing on my experience as a former Magistrate Judge, PhD in Criminal Justice, and mental health executive, I shared how this law will shape our community’s response to violence, crisis, and accountability. I also highlighted the work of TSG Behavioral Health (@theshipgroupbh ) as we expand access to culturally responsive care, strengthen reentry pathways, and build restorative supports for people impacted by trauma and instability.

Conversations like this matter. They influence how systems operate, how people are supported, and how communities heal.

It is summertime at the N.C. Court of Appeals and we are glad to host two interns this summer.

Allie A. Konieczny serves as a law student intern to Judge Murry. Ms. Konieczny earned a BA from the University of Mississippi and is a rising 2L at High Point University Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law. As a first year law student, Allie earned a position on law review and serves as treasurer for FirstGen, a group for first generation law students. Ms. Konieczny previously interned for Loretta Kendall Law P.C. and will serve as an intern for the District Attorney in Allegheny County , Pennsylvania for the second half of the summer.

J. Floyd Booker serves as a law student intern to Judge Murry. Mr. Booker earned a BS in Finance from North Carolina State University and is a rising 3L at the Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. Mr. Booker currently serves as the President of Campbell Law School’s The Federalist Society chapter and as Associate Editor of the Campbell Law Observer. After law school, Mr. Booker intends to pursue a career in complex business litigation as an appellate advocate.
