Good news update! Our sweetheart B&T boy, Sig, came home today from NCSU Vet School. He’s got a 4-6 week road to healing, but he’s doing so well. 🥰 We cannot thank @ncstatevetmed Soft Tissue, Dr Meghan Jeffcoat, Merrit Newton, & the anesthesia team enough. Simply put, this group is filled with heroes. 🫶 We love y’all for keeping our boy safe & for doing all the right things by him. 🥰 #ncstatevetmed #vetanesthesia #vetmedanesthesiology #heroes #ncstatevetmedsofttissue Special shoutout to Beth @ekpiojda for dropping by to see Sig while he was at NC State. 🥰🐾🧡✨

Some pretty amazing news about our Ruby Rose! ❤️🐾
Yesterday, Ruby participated in a senior Cavalier King Charles Spaniel research study at NC State Veterinary School, and we came home with some wonderful news!

The study is looking at several important health issues affecting Cavaliers, including heart health, CM/SM, hearing loss, and cognitive function. Ruby had quite the day of testing, including an echocardiogram, hearing and cognitive testing, DNA collection, and more.

And the BEST news?! At 9 years old, Ruby has NO HEART MURMUR!! ❤️❤️❤️
If you know Cavaliers, you know just how exciting that is! I was absolutely over the moon! Her other results have been great so far, too, although we’re still waiting on a few tests to come back. Her hearing test confirmed what we’ve known for several years, that Ruby is deaf. Hearing loss is one of the areas researchers are hoping to better understand in Cavaliers, so I’m especially glad she can contribute to that part of the study.
I also want to give a special thank you to Ruby’s breeder, Heather Borton of Lively Oak Cavaliers. ❤️ Responsible breeding matters SO much, especially in a breed with significant inherited health concerns. Breeders who prioritize thorough health testing and make responsible breeding decisions are helping give future generations of Cavaliers the best possible chance at long, healthy lives.

No breeder can guarantee perfect health, but choosing one who puts health first makes such a difference. It’s something I really hope anyone considering adding a Cavalier to their family takes seriously.

I’m so grateful for Ruby’s wonderful news and for the opportunity to be part of research that will hopefully improve the health of this incredible breed for generations to come.

So proud of our sweet girl and that beautiful little heart of hers! ❤️🐾
