Thank you to The Observer for writing about our recent Chicago/Midwest Emmy nomination for our film with Holy Cross College, Courage to Act: The Story Stained Glass Doesn’t Tell.

It’s always a pleasure working with the team at Holy Cross College, and we were so excited to hear we were nominated for an Emmy.

We’ll be heading up to Chicago next week to find out the results, but either way, we’re so happy this video is reaching a wider audience.

Full article is linked in bio.

The Pink Elephant Antique Mall in Livingston, Illinois, opened in 2005 insides the town’s former high school. Today the old school holds about 30,000 square feet of antiques and collectibles, while the grounds have become a collection of Route 66 oddities.

The Twistee Treat is particularly good: the abandoned ice-cream-cone building was reportedly found in a ditch in Pennsylvania and hauled to Livingston in 2008.

And the pink elephant has a resume of her own. The elephant and another giant figure were brought from the mall’s previous location, and the elephant reportedly appeared in the 1990 film Flatliners before eventually becoming the namesake of this wonderfully strange stop along the Mother Road. Route 66.

The Buffalo looks peaceful enough now.

During the Civil War, a Union officer described this corner of the Ozarks as as a “nest and nursery of bushwhackers and lawless marauders.” In 1864, about 50 Union Calvary men fought roughly 250 Confederate guerrillas near the river’s headwaters at Whiteley’s Mills.

A century later, the fight was over the river itself. Proposals to dam the Buffalo triggered a long conservation battle, ending in 1972 when Congress protected it as America’s first national river.

Today, roughly 135 miles flow within Buffalo National River, including some excellent smallmouth bass water.
