Yesterday I had the privilege to represent AGMA at a convening of union leaders, childcare providers, and advocacy groups on “The Labor Path to Universal Childcare” hosted by the New York Union Childcare Coalition and the Consortium for Worker Education.

The affordability and availability of childcare is a major issue for artists in New York and around the country, and I’m excited to be involved in this important advocacy work!

Death, taxes, and me taking a costume shot in this pose if you give me a sword in a Verdi opera.

I can’t believe the @metoperawardrobe and @metoperawam would trust me with this cape and wig combo for an HD performance!

Last week I was proud to cantor at the annual NYC Labor Mass held in St. Francis of Assisi Church. Obviously, with the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 just four days after Labor Day, it was a time of remembrance and it was my honor to add consolation to the grief and beauty to the resolve that this must never happen again. It also served as a reminder for me of what AGMA artists bring to the Labor Movement and to the world. The beauty of our art can truly be a powerful force for good and a light in dark times.

Thank you to the NYC Central Labor Council and President Brendan Griffith for the opportunity to lend my voice to the cause of workers strength and solidarity (and capturing these great pics)! And of course, thanks to my always supportive parents — who attended in AGMA blue no less!

Went to the Met Gala! … No, the OTHER one 😜✨ Though someone tried to crash our table, so I’d say this gala is rapidly becoming THE gala, y’all.

Bravi tutti on an epic opening night! Verdi’s Macbeth was absolutely thrilling, and the gala dinner afterward was so delicious (sorry, crasher!) Way to kick off the season! 🎭🥂

And have you heard? @nycmayorsoffice and @metopera are offering 70,000 free opera tickets this season. Eligible New Yorkers (i.e. anyone who hasn’t bought a ticket since 2019) can enter the lottery at on.nyc.gov/opera 🎟️ Get it!

Still thinking about Tuesday’s amazing opening night of the season! Such an incredible energy, and combine it with today’s exciting announcement of the partnership between the city and the Met, and we are off to quite a start!

And, of course, it was wonderful to share that night with Tanya! Always special to get dressed up and share this time with her!

It was my great honor to once again to be named to the New York City & State Power 100 list, representing AGMA members around the country! Proud to share this list with so many union leaders I admire and respect.

It stands as a testament to the rise in prominence our union is earning. And at the reception last week, when people asked how things were going at AGMA, I could proudly give numerous examples of how AGMA members are fighting for and winning what they deserve!

On September 11, 2001 I was a senior in an NYC high school and remember, more than anything, confusion and powerlessness — the feeling like I had no idea what to do or say. How can you react to that kind of tragedy? 25 years later, I think the answer has something to do with action, with showing up and doing the work.

So I was glad to see @newyorkcares once again organizing days of action and community engagement around 9/11 at the Intrepid Museum. And it was my great privilege to serve as a Table Captain, supporting volunteers as we pack over 3 million meals (we did 200k during this morning’s shift alone!).

6:45am was, I admit a bit earlier than I’m used to, but all the volunteers I met were awesome (go Tables 4 & 5!) and it felt good to do something positive on this important anniversary.

I was in rehearsal so I missed the speeches, but, as always, I was proud to march as an AGMA member at this year’s Labor Day Parade in NYC! It’s so inspiring to walk side by side with AGMA artists, staff, and our incredibly varied sibling unions!

Tanya and I don’t get a lot of time in the same location this fall, so we’ve got to take advantage of every chance we get – especially if we can be together on our 17th wedding anniversary (17!!!). So this weekend I was out in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where she’s performing for a few weeks with Inland Northwest Opera!

First time in Idaho and it was beautiful! Really lovely (though sometimes a tiny bit cold and wet) weekend! But a redeye flight back to NYC Monday night, and heading straight to the Met from the airport Tuesday morning, I have to admit I’m a little loopy during Macbeth rehearsal today 🫠…
