We are deeply grateful that Panah-Pour Secondary School, built in honour of our grandparents was inaugurated this year to coincide with the third anniversary of their passing.

Our grandparents believed deeply in the power of education. They believed that the opportunity to learn would lead to open minds and hearts.

One of our favourite memories of our beloved MJ was finding her studying her English workbooks and taking setar lessons up to the last months she was
with us. Our grandpa believed in equal opportunity for every person, truth and transparency.

It is quite natural then that our Mom,their daughter, Ramin, decided to build and dedicate a school in their honour. This school was built in Ghal’e Gani (Kerman), one of the most impoverished and rural areas of Iran. We hope that the opportunity to learn, lights the fire of curiosity in those young minds so that they are determined to find the truth instead of being led by misinformation and blind obedience.

“Our love, I feel like this year has passed in telling stories and khatereh of you. I don’t have your talent in telling khatarehs. No one could ever tell a story like you did, keeping every ear and heart engaged and hanging on your every word. Still, I try because I have to.

You are on my mind every single day. For those of us who loved you, telling khaterehs of you is a loving ritual. We say often, “Remember when...?” We bring out our precious memories one by one, inhale their comforting scent of you and home, feel the warmth of your laughter, your twinkling eyes. It soothes our still aching hearts.

Now there are also new people in my life that have never met you and because I feel like no one can know me without knowing you, I share you with them. It seems like an impossible task to do justice to your sense of joy, your love of adventure, your loving heart and so I tell them stories and khaterehs of who you were, what you did, how you brought so much joy into our lives, how you made me the woman I am today.

Our love, you are missed so very deeply. Remember when we picked you up from the airport when you’d visit from Iran? When we each tried to be the first one to spot you in the crowd? We miss you like that and more.

Our MJ, you are loved more than words can describe. Remember the way your eyes would light up when we walked into your house? The way you called out to us, “Janam”? We love you like that and so much more.
It is and will always be an honor to have known and loved you.”

“Dream until your dreams come true”- this is my favorite quote
I remember seeing optometry students interns rotate through the practice I used to work at and thinking to myself “wow, I wish I could be them” it was a dream and a goal I had for a very long time. Little by little & without noticing, life started paving the way for me to become a competitive candidate for optometry school and in a blink of an eye I was sitting in classroom at my dream optometry school. Now, almost at the end of my second year of optometry school I can’t help but to reflect back into those days and feel grateful to be in the position I am in today.
To those of you striving towards your goals, keep on going! Believe in yourself and You will see how your dreams truly do come true. 💫

Recuerdo aquellos estudiantes de optometría haciendo sus rotaciones en la oficina que yo trabajaba y pensar a mí misma "wow, desearía poder ser ellos", fue un sueño y una meta que tuve durante mucho tiempo. Poco a poco y sin darme cuenta, la vida comenzó a allanarme el camino para convertirme en una candidata competitiva para la escuela de optometría y en un abrir y cerrar de ojos estaba sentada en un salon de clase de la universidad de optometría de mis sueños. Ahora, casi al final de mi segundo año de escuela de optometría, no puedo evitar reflexionar sobre esos días y sentirme agradecida de estar en la posición en la que estoy hoy.
Para aquellos de ustedes que se esfuerzan por alcanzar sus metas, ¡sigan adelante! Cree en ti mismo y verás cómo tus sueños se hacen realidad.💫
