What should housing prioritize more? 🏠

Yo, I’m not a real estate expert 🙈 I don’t own property yet. But in the U.S. 🇺🇸 buying a home 🏡 usually means big down payments, high interest rates, strict approvals, and property taxes. So when I was talking with friends in Amsterdam 🇳🇱 (locals, Americans, Brits 🇬🇧), I was shocked to hear some were paying mortgage rates as low as 1.2% on modest, well-located homes. And that the system is built to prioritize people living in their homes, not just flipping them 💭

So after World War II, the Netherlands rebuilt by treating housing as social infrastructure not just a private investment. Limited land and dense cities pushed the government to regulate housing, reduce speculation, and tie access more closely to income than inherited wealth ⚖️

Now, could this work in NYC or the U.S.? Realistically, HELL NAH 🙅🏻‍♂️ American housing is too financialized. Trillions are tied up in mortgages, pensions, real estate. Reversing that would be seismic, atomic, apocalyptic.

And Amsterdam isn’t perfect either. There’s a massive housing shortage, strict zoning limits supply, and foreign demand (including my American and British friends 😅) has pushed prices up, leaving locals rightfully frustrated.

Still, compared to the U.S. where housing is often a financial instrument first, for me the Dutch model offers a different lens. The idea that someone with a steady paycheck can buy a home to actually live in feels worth paying attention to. Not because it’s flawless, but because it shows housing doesn’t have to work the way it does now.

But I don’t know much 🤷🏻‍♂️ What y’all think?

Where does the best food 🍱🍔🥘 come from? 💭

Yo, food travels the same way people do. It picks up accents, loses rules, and gains meaning. Third Cultures is about highlighting those in-between stories. The places where identity isn’t fixed, and tradition keeps moving. We shot the pilot independently (shout out to @portal_a for supporting the vision) in Prato, Italy, a city reshaped by migration and labor, where Chinese and Italian lives overlap in ways you don’t usually see on screen. If this kind of story speaks to you, the pilot is live on YouTube. Link’s in the bio.

Let me know what y’all think. Merry Christmas id y’all celebrating 🤜🏼🤛🏼
