I’m so grateful to my client @remainslighting for their enthusiastic support of the @brooklynshowhouse, and the 11 firms that placed their pieces in their rooms from vintage to new from outdoor lanterns to chandeliers all from their glorious Brooklyn factory.

A Brooklyn Affair @brooklynshowhouse

Our lighting and accessories are found throughout this year’s Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse, with eleven firms placing Remains’ antique, vintage, and made to order pieces in their rooms. It’s a pleasure to see our collections so much at home, so close to home.

The house is open through October and well worth a wander. We are excited to share a few glimpses here, with more on the spaces and their designers to come over the following weeks.

Today marks 10 years since the universe rode off with Professor Paul Martyka. Much like my 2016 self, I’m still at a loss for words. How could one describe such a complex individual, whose influence has guided the lives and careers of so many creatives?

Losing Martyka in my senior year of undergrad was a profoundly difficult, but formative experience. After he passed, many of us became aware of the metaphysical threads that he’d sewn throughout his life: he connected people to a dedication of craft, he’d connected artists with ideas and inspiration to last lifetimes, and he’d connected many of us with one another. To this day, when I meet someone who knew him, or who endured one his infamously difficult critiques, or who bummed cigarettes off him, I feel closer to him than any other time.

2016, my beloved. With both high highs and
low lows, this is the year that I romanticize above all others. So many 2026 life events steered me to where I am today:

• @alexislorraine_art and I fell in love
• lost our friend & mentor, Martyka
• graduated college and made Rock Hill my home
• began exhibiting my artworks throughout the Carolinas
• participated in numerous creative activities within my community
• taught at Winthrop as an adjunct instructor

You may know me as being a bit nostalgic 😅 but this year was quite special.

We accept clothing, fabric, notions, art supplies, and rando studio needs in clean, usable condition.
Grateful for volunteers to help pack (DM if you can stick around from 6-7).
Leftovers this round are donated to
@fountainhouseharlem and @materialsforthearts
Selects may be upcycled for our in-house accessibly priced ExtraVersions label that help keep the lights on.
For the first time, we’re asking a $5 suggested donation to help cover the cost of the space and transpo to deliver donations after.
No one turned away for lack of funds, and more $ is always welcome 💗
