A few of my many favorites from yesterday’s @wicxseries_pb_trek Simba’s Crossing.

I’m a huge fan of technical courses, and this one had no shortage of tech. Huge shout out to @connerenciso and the LAPT squad for putting such a great day together.

One year of preparation. One very long day. And four words I will never forget:
“Gülüstan Öztürk, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!” ❤️
This was never simply a bucket-list item for me.
I love my work and feel incredibly fortunate to have built a career that matters deeply to me. But I also know how easily something I love can expand until it occupies almost every available part of my life. I wanted movement, health, and adventure to become permanent parts of my life not things I attempted to fit in only when everything else was finished. I knew myself well enough to understand that making such a meaningful change would require a goal too large to ignore or continually postpone.
IRONMAN became that goal.
I began this journey last November, riding my bike indoors through the Wisconsin winter with an idea that felt both exciting and slightly crazy. I did not begin because I already considered myself an endurance athlete. I began because I wanted to challenge myself, create a new beginning, and discover what might happen if I continued moving forward—even when I felt afraid, uncertain, tired, or unprepared.
Training also gave me something I had not fully expected: space. What began as preparation for one enormous goal gradually became something I genuinely enjoyed and needed.
I had learned to swim only the year before, and an injury later prevented me from completing much of the run training I had planned. In May, I seriously considered changing from the full IRONMAN to the half. My family listened to every doubt, every change of plan, and every update. They encouraged me without pressuring me and helped me remember how deeply I still wanted this. On race day, they followed me from far away for more than fourteen hours, learning the campus and course through the tracker and later telling me that they had become exhausted simply watching my little dot move across the screen.Their love and support carried me through this entire journey, and I will never be able to thank them enough. Continued in the comments….

It's a vibe... Gravel bikes hitting the ramps, wall rides and pump track kind of night.

Ran some errands today, by bike, of course. It is HOT 🥵🥵 Roughly 95°F (~40+°C) with a heat index...higher than that. I brought four "containers" of water: two 26oz water bottles and both of my 2L hydro bladders. I was on my ebike, because I had things to carry, but also had my hydropack. I drank over 2L between the two bladders, but both have some left. I drank about half from a bottle, when I was stopped briefly. There was also a wind factor, and lots of shade, so it wasn't too bad. I am glad I had an excess of water.

At the library, another biker noticed his tire was flat, so I offered my pump (luckily it still had some charge 🫣)....then he realized the tire had exploded, and he wouldn't be able to ride it 🥴 He planned to walk home, so I offered my clean, but full, water bottle, cuz of the heat. He declined and went on his way. I hope he lives close 🫣

From there, I decided to go the long way to @neffcycleservice , to return the stem I had been lent while waiting for the ordered stem, after my bike fit in May. That took a little longer than expected. I had to ride on fish hatchery for maybe 0.25 miles (or less), but I made it....and their AC felt soooo good 😳
Then I finally managed to utilize tge Cannonball trail again....I want to say it's been over a decade, maybe, since I've been on it. I felt a lot more confident than the last time, I know that lol

Tomorrow's goal....ride to the AMC Theatre via the Military Ridge trail and see the IMAX movie....we'll see how that goes🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🤟
