Galerie RANG is pleased to present Negra Bernhard in its inaugural exhibition, At First Sight.

Negra Bernhard (b. 1986, Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina) is an Austrian painter living and working in Baden near Vienna. After migrating to Austria with her family in 1992, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Daniel Richter, graduating with distinction in 2022.

Bernhard’s psychologically charged paintings explore themes of memory, identity, alienation, and the interplay between personal and collective experience through dreamlike, often nocturnal imagery and a distinctive colour palette. Her works are held in private collections across Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, and the United States.

Opening Friday, 25. September 2026, 17:30–22:00
Galerie RANG
Burggasse 98, 1070 Vienna

Pleased to announce ‘At First Sight’, the gallery’s inaugural exhibition, opening Friday, 25th of September.

Taking the figure as its point of departure, the group show examines its modes of appearance and representation, and the ways in which it carries, transforms and produces meaning.

Bringing together diverse artistic practices, the exhibition and its participating artists offer a first insight into the gallery’s evolving vision and future programme.

Today, we begin introducing you more closely to the artists participating in the GASTARBEITER III project.

We are opening this series with artist Negra Bernhard @negrabernhard
Negra Bernhard (Bosnia and Herzegovina / Banja Luka, 1986)
She paints scenes inspired by personal experiences, memories, and dreams.
Situated somewhere between East and West, her painting is a reflection on what unfolds within her and around her. Her work oscillates between sarcasm, uncertainty, and a sense of alienation toward the world we live in, with the aim of exploring what connects us. In 1992, she moved to Austria with her family. She lives and works in Vienna. From 2017 to 2022, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the class of Professor Daniel Richter, graduating with distinction.
“Nocturne for Two Strays - The Fence Was Always There”, 2025, oil on canvas, 115 x 85 cm
“The World Is Moving Closer Together”, 2024, oil on canvas, 115 x 85 cm
“State Of Affairs”, 2024, oil on canvas, 115 x 85 cm
