Everyone’s got advice on how to make it in music. 🎧

But the industry moves fast, and what worked five years ago might not work today.

Less scrolling through endless advice. More real conversations with people actually working in the industry.

Your next move starts with the right conversation.

You could be making incredible music right now and still be completely off the industry’s radar.

Frustrating? Yep. Uncommon? Not even slightly.

The reality is, making great music is only part of it.

A&Rs are looking beyond the tracks. They’re paying attention to who’s building momentum, who’s putting themselves out there and who’s actually making things happen.

But how are you supposed to know what they’re looking for if nobody tells you?

That’s where we come in.

Real industry people. Real conversations. No gatekeeping.

💬 Want to know what actually gets an A&R’s attention?

Comment MENTOR and we’ll help you find the right industry mentor to book a 1-on-1 consultation with.

We’ve got music industry mentors across artist development, songwriting, production, DJing, marketing, releases, touring, publishing, royalties, photography and the business of music.

Real industry experience. Actual guidance. No guru nonsense.

Less scrolling. More direction.

What can I say? I like pretending I’m a @rollingstone journalist sometimes…

As promised, here are my thoughts on @taylorswift and “The Life of A Showgirl: The Encore” 🤩 Hope you like it ❤️‍🔥

And as ever, name the time and place for that interview, Taylor. I’m there.

@ladyhawkeforyou became a household name in Australia and New Zealand in a short period of time, following her 2008 debut album. Fast forward to 2026, she believes the music industry is a vastly different place from the one she entered. And it hasn’t always been for good.

@ladyhawkeforyou decided a little over a year ago that she wanted to start work on a new album, and at @bigsound this week, she treated fans to a taste of it.

As she told Rolling Stone AU/NZ at the annual conference and showcase: “I’m just angry at the world and how everything’s going, and I need to put it somewhere. So I thought, why not just make a record?”

Everyone walking into Big Sound feels the same thing. Awkward, unsure who to approach, worried about saying the wrong thing.

Swipe through for how to actually network at Big Sound 2026, plus a clip from Laura J White (@l_j_white), bookings manager and connector at Grow Up Bookings and founder of Freedom Sessions, on making it feel human instead of forced.

Have a clear opener. Have a clean exit. If it gets weird, make it funny. Networking doesn’t need to be a performance. It just needs to be real.

What’s your go to opener this week? Tell me below.

WHAT A WEEK! A number one ARIA album, number one on the Shazam Viral chart (with a song I serviced to radio in 2014!), and Robert Irwin doing the worm on stage at the Logies. Congrats to @pekingduk @reuben_styles @keliholiday @jonhanlon @styalzfuego and the whole @virginmusicanz team. So much hard work goes into an album release and it’s truly special to see the culmination of Adam and Reuben’s incredible body of work. It’s been an honour working with these guys from the very beginning of their career to now. Thanks to everyone who continues to support the Duks. See you at their upcoming Paradise tour!

Throwback to our Mentor Academy industry preview night 🙌

It was real then. It’s realer now.

One year ago today, our community showed out to our industry preview night in Sydney. 250 people in a room, not for a pitch deck, for a vision they could feel was already real.

Our aim to connect you directly to the people actually doing the work. No middlemen. No gatekeepers.

One year on, one-on-one mentorships are live with industry leaders who’ve built real, sustainable careers across music, business and creative industry.

The platform is built. Full launch is close.

To everyone who was there and believed it before it was built, thank you.

In this week's episode of Rolling Stone Uncut, we sat down with Gang of Youths' Dave Le'aupepe and Jung Kim, recorded at the Sydney Opera House, to talk about the band's comeback and their new music - and if you couldn't tell, we had a lot of fun (and laughs) doing it.
