This is the remix 12" for WARRIOR GROOVE by DSM, released in 1985 on 10 Records. I've only just been hipped to the existence of this record a few months ago by my friend, DJ Mesiah @neilbakerz and by jove it's excellent. With three further versions of this UK Pirate Radio favourite, it's a truly immersive spectacle that goes onto cement this track's existing rep as a crucial piece of UK HIP HOP/ELECTRO. Shaun Williams scratches up segments from THE BUGGERS' crazy BUGGER GROOVE to primitive effect. Somehow it works, as do the added florid sax riffs giving these remixes a sultry veneer. Producer/remixer, Danny Poku is best known for his remix work in the '80s and beyond under the alias, Dancin' Danny D. I haven't checked but I think DSM was his first project. He also recorded as D MOB and gave us pop/dance/rap tunes like WE CALL IT ACIIIIEEED and IT IS TIME TO GET FUNKY <feat. LONDON RHYME SYNDICATE>. DSM's next 12" after Warrior Groove was called DESTINY, which I think is an early contender for the UK STREET SOUL genre, what do you think? Anyway, if you love WARRIOR GROOVE, this 12" adds more to the story. #DSM #10RECORDS #dannypoku #dancindannyd
