A garden of paradise on earth

The Dresden Zwinger still dominates the cityscape today and is a reminder of the magnificent Baroque period like no other building. At the request of Augustus the Strong, a courtly work of art was created between the inner and outer fortification walls by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann and Balthasar Permoser instead of a simple orangery. The planned palace extension was replaced by the Picture Gallery and the Semper Opera House. Porcelain collection, Old Masters Picture Gallery, Mathematical-Physical Salon: today, visitors discover the museums of the Dresden State Art Collections in the Zwinger.

The Zwinger Xperience multimedia experience uses panoramic projections and virtual reality stations to immerse visitors in a world of festivals, parades and drama. From May to October, orange trees lend the Zwinger an additional Mediterranean charm.
