Before you start trying to walk on your hands, you need to understand what a strong handstand position actually feels like.

In this clip from our Handstand Walk Workshop at Camp, Nelson and Claire demonstrate the tripod position we use for handstand push-ups.

We start on the floor in a downward dog, then progress to the box and eventually the wall.

These drills are great for learning how to shift your weight onto your hands while keeping your body in a strong, controlled position — and they’re a great stepping stone towards handstand walking.

Want to work on your handstand walk? Watch the full workshop for the drills, progressions and coaching cues we use to build the skill.

You’ll have way more confidence kicking up and walking on your hands if you can nail this one thing: how to bail out of it without hurting yourself!

Coach @nelson.slade shows us how to practice this which will in turn allow you to get into a great HSW position without fear of falling.

Want to see the rest of the workshop? Whether you’re learning this skill yourself or you’re a coach needing a strong progression, this one’s for you!

If your handstand kick-up looks more like a Superman dive, this might be why you’re struggling to get your legs stacked over your hands.

A lot of athletes kick up by throwing their chest forward and reaching out, which sends the legs travelling behind them instead of up into a strong, stacked position.

In this clip from my Handstand Walk Seminar, Coach Nelson breaks down what he sees athletes doing and what we want to do instead.

Want to improve your handstand walk? Watch the full seminar for more drills, cues and common faults to help you build a more consistent handstand walk.

First Games. First time working 1-on-1 with a coach. And still plenty of goals left to chase.

Joann has been a WODprep athlete since 2019, but this year she took the next step and started working 1-on-1 with Coach Nelson.

One of the reasons she chose WODprep? She felt like we genuinely understood and supported older athletes.

Now she’s been able to focus on getting stronger, improving her gymnastics and working on the skills that matter most to her.

That’s one of my favourite things about coaching: there’s always another goal to chase, whatever your age or experience level.

Huge congrats on your outstanding Games performance, Joann! We can’t wait to see what you do next!

Wondering if 1-on-1 coaching could be right for you? Comment “COACH ME” and we’ll help you find out.
