Art In My Bizness Open Mic is back, and this week the spotlight is on @shockieg_the_poet. 🎤✨

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Shockie G brings spoken word that leans into reflection, healing, vulnerability, and the kind of truth that makes people sit with what they just heard.

But the poetry isn’t where the story stops.

📚 Shockie G is also an author, with new work continuing to expand the world she’s building beyond the mic.

✨ Allergic to Stardust
🌅 Sundowners: A Horror Novella

Her writing moves between poetry, storytelling, emotion, and darker imaginative territory, giving readers another way to experience her voice offstage.

📍 LIVE on Instagram: @unculturedasian

💬 Want to perform? Comment on the original post to claim an open mic spot.

Come for the feature. Stay for the open mic. And if the words hit, don’t stop at the performance. Go see what she’s putting on the page too.

📲 Folllw @artinmybizness for future events and FMI on how to feature.

Tesoro is back with another Pen & Sword Open Mic, and this time we’re welcoming @jessiemariepoetry to the feature spot.🖊️⚔️

Jessie is a Bay Area-rooted poet, multidisciplinary artist, and founder of Santa Cruz’s Mic Drop! open mic. Her work moves through grief, healing, deconstruction, survival, and the kind of truth that doesn’t require you to show up polished before you’re allowed to be heard.

A former Christian minister, Jessie has traded the traditional pulpit for the poem, creating spaces where people can arrive unfinished, make some noise, and still be reminded there is light left in the living.

Come hear what happens when honesty gets the mic.

🗓️Thursday, September 17th

I don't even have a sweet tooth like that...but apparently every Thursday I pull up to the Nuyo dessert table HUNGRY. 😂🍰🎤

Somewhere along the way, poetry stopped being something I simply attended and this beautiful, random collection of humans became something my spirit learned to crave.

And because even a 10-minute director's cut couldn't fit everybody on one plate...let me add:

🍫 Eike Walz...SEXUAL CHOCOLATE. No further explanation will be provided at this time. 😂

🍮 Maestro Mathmaddox...caramel pecan turtle cheesecake. Layered, substantial, sweet where it counts, and my warrior who is somehow always strapped in beside me for whatever ridiculous ride poetry takes us on next.

There are still names I haven't called, flavors I haven't tasted long enough to describe, and desserts this poem simply didn't have room to serve.

Because maybe that was the point all along:

Community this sweet was never meant to fit on one plate.

Thursday is non-negotiable.
I've got people to get to.

Everything else can wait until After Dessert. 🍰❤️🎤

Performed live tonight for the NUYO TOOM prompt: community threads / weaving connection.

THE THURSDAY ENTANGLEMENT

Poets got into the circuitry again.

No permits.
No supervision.
Just memory, nerve, static, rage—

and enough language to make the machine glitch.

We found each other.

Now the system has a problem.

Shout out to the Nuyorican Open Mic with @elemen2al & @skiffgram for keeping the signal alive.

Stay deviant. Stay luminous. Disrupt.
