As artists, we need more than a studio. We need a place where ideas can grow, experiments can happen, and a community can come together to make art possible. Bakehouse is that place for so many of us. Your support helps sustain our studios, nurture our artistic practices, and keep this incredible creative community alive. 🎟️ Get your tickets at @bakehouseartcomplex and be part of the celebration! Come home to art. Come home to community. ❤️ #augustoesquivel #BakehouseArtComplex

So much has been happening over the past few months and days, but through it all, I continue to be the realized dream of those who, amidst the violence and cruelty of slavery DARED TO DREAM. I was dreamed into existence, and I deeply honor that legacy. Miami has revealed itself to me beautifully; it is wonderful to know that this place, too, feels like home in the parties, the people, and the dreams of freedom we have dreamed together. 🙆🏾‍♀️ Thank you so much, @wophafoundation .

Sunday 20 September, 3–6 PM at @greenspacemiami. A preview screening of Mystic Triangle, Christopher Mitchell’s documentary shot across three lakou over 15 years in Haiti, followed by a conversation with artist Dimitry Saïd Chamy. The two participating artists in Count It All Joy! discuss how they come at the same word from opposite directions. Mitchell travels to the lakou and films what is still held there — land, rhythm, lineage, obligation, kept in the same hands. Chamy’s installation, My memory palace is more of a lakou. When I draw, it rains, builds one out of memory: his grandmother Mémé’s fabric treasures, his grandfather Luc’s garden, his great-grandmother Yaya’s healing hands, all of it reassembled from what he calls the generative paradox of poorly remembered fragments. One goes to the site. The other draws until it rains. Count It All Joy! Curated by @dm_or_dmarie & @mccoy_arsimmer On view through 4 October Featuring works by @japonteart, @germane.barnes, @2urn_, @drum_strings, @unkleclarence, @maiyapfineart, @queensydneyrose, @jedleemetayer, @neoero, @babyyy_g__, maggiesteber, @deswitit, @mfwhom_, @bongowattz, @sophewong. With support from @locustprojects, @warholfoundation, @knightfdn, and Mapou Lakou. Free. 7200 Biscayne Blvd. Come early, stay after.

Joy, memory, nostalgia, color and the traces of pain that make celebration feel all the more meaningful. ✨ Count It All Joy! at @greenspacemiami brings together 15 artists whose works explore the complicated, beautiful space where joy and sorrow, remembrance and possibility, can exist at the same time. I was grateful to experience the exhibition through an intimate guided tour and especially moved to see Arsimmer McCoy step into this new chapter of her practice. Arsimmer has spent years creating, preserving, documenting, and championing Black life in Miami, making this curatorial moment feel both like an arrival and the beginning of something larger. Co-Curated by Donnamarie Baptiste @dm_or_dmarie and Arsimmer McCoy @mccoy_arsimmer.
