Häxan (1922) w/ Live Music by THE EMPYREANS!

DEVIL'S NIGHT! Friday, October 30th, Doors 8pm

A rarely-seen silent horror film that still continues to shock! Originally banned in the U.S. this legendary Swedish masterpiece offers a mesmerizing investigation into the fear of the unknown, a terrifying (yet enlightening) cinema-concert experience featuring an ambient psychedelic live score!

It's the night before Halloween! Come dressed in costume to be entered into a raffle to win prizes! Doors 8pm, screening 8:30pm, Please plan to arrive within that window of time to enjoy a refreshment and choose your seat to best avoid disrupting the program. Thanks!

Häxan (1922). Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: Benjamin Christensen’s legendary silent film is a mesmerizing investigation of the fear of the unknown, intertwining grotesque spectacle with darkly humorous social insight. Christensen’s unique hybrid-genre masterpiece anticipated modern horror, documentary re-creation, and the essay film, making for a terrifying (yet enlightening) experience unlike anything else in the history of cinema.

With it's visionary scale and impressive special effects, it was one of the most expensive productions of the Swedish silent era. The critically-acclaimed but controversial film was originally banned in the U.S. and heavily censored in other countries. Now you can experience it in our Sanctuary on the big screen w/ a live soundtrack!

*RECOMMENDED FOR MATURE AUDIENCES.

“One of Häxan’s masterstrokes is the way it places together, on the same level of cinematic depiction, fact and fiction, objective reality and hallucination.”-Chris Fujiwara for Criterion

The Empyreans is an evolving ambient ensemble founded in 2022 by multi-instrumentalist and performance artist Craig Douglas. Conceived as a gathering place for like-minded ambient musicians, experimentalists, and sonic explorers, the project was originally created to perform live scores over obscure and forgotten films at Epsilon Spires in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Sound Art 3! The 3rd annual Experimental Music Festival at @wbcr977fm! 📻

Still processing it all, but here are some highlights from yesterday. My brain is rewired from all the sounds!
I was there from start to finish, 10am–10pm (and then some) 😵‍💫🫨 Whooaaa!!

Thank you Jason and John, and to all the performers who came from near and far, to those who tuned in worldwide, and to everyone curious and adventurous enough to come inside the station and check it out. Sooo inspiring, exciting, and refreshing.
This event always makes me so proud of our little community radio station. 💓

Stay weird! Get involved! Organize something! Anything!

My favorite annual @wbcr977fm event is happening this Saturday!!!!
SoundArt 3: an all-day experimental music festival! 📻😵‍💫🎛️
Yes, there will be live performances at the station all day and yes, you’re invited to stop by and hang out for as long or as little as you’d like.
I’ll also be DJing a weird set live on the air, and @ctsbtv will be filming the event!
I can’t wait to see so many incredible artists performing right here in downtown Great Barrington. Just what this town needs, IMHO. 💛
