Project Slopweaver [final frames]; what happens when you take a dataset retrieve its most distant elements and ask a generative model to merge them together, iteratively collapsing it into a single image? AI is all about merging stuff (interpolation) - but how well does it merge? Datasets: 1. @nephila.world images from Shanghai event last November. 2. ESA hubble and ESA web. 3. Figures from ArxivCap. 4. Open access images from the Met. 5. Animals from Imagenet-1k 6. Spiders from iNaturalist 7. FFHQ Credits: Made with claude code - none of my generative modeling Phd expertise was used.

AI is useful for merging stuff, but how does it perform when our requests make no sense? Datasets: 1. @nephila.world images from Shanghai event last November. 2. ESA hubble and ESA web. 3. Thank you to everyone who braved the heat and gathered for @nephila.world < first contact >. What began as an experiment in collective behavior became something more: a moment where art, software, and community converged at Espace Parallèle. Nephila OS—the Paris launch of a multiplayer internet for becoming alien together—arrived as part artwork, part software, entirely experimental. Custom metal stands activated by real-time network activity. Floral installations. Live performances. Music that moved the room. A shared dinner. Every detail was a thread in something larger than ourselves. We’re grateful to everyone who shaped the night. A few weeks ago, I presented a new work for @nephila.world < first contact > event. BE AGGRESSIVE! is a Turing-complete computer built out of cheerleaders. The project recasts cheerleading as a technological practice, in which bodies synchronize and discretize their movement to execute a routine. Here, virtual cheerleaders render images from the internet using their bodies, creating a performance that emerges from the computational operations of the Brainfuck programming language. The work runs in real time, fetching images based on user interactions in @freudenheiim work “Surface”, made possible via the just-released @nephila.world operating system. Here are some images of the work as it was shown at the event. The week before, I also had the opportunity to explore some of the theoretical underpinnings of the research at @bhmpi @machinevisualculture Noisy Systems conference, where I presented a paper exploring Gilbert Simondon’s information theory through the lens of cheerleading. 🤡📣

This Saturday in Paris, @nephila.world presents < first contact > which marks the Paris launch of Nephila OS, a multiplayer internet for becoming something other than ourselves. Ahead of the event, we spoke with Nephila about peer-to-peer infrastructure, AI as a fuzzy database, Soulseek, spiders, swarm behavior, alien encounters, and what it means for a group to think with software. Read the full editorial before we swarm. Link in bio. 🕸️

if death be the omen, may its skies be clear: work cohering and reshaping, forking paths, interior America, a fractured spine, sudden family, love and care beyond measure, sweetness and pain, endless surprise … not nearly enough slides for the plot or for the gift of everyone in it❤️‍🔥 You’d be foolish to bank on hope and faith alone but a surfeit of unreason is the eye that skillfully slits a veil🪉 s/o to Cambridge Massachusetts for being the unexpected cradle for the last 2 yrs with the most beloved, driven, talented, no bs, generous, and beautiful & 💗 NYC esp @charlotabhorsavoid as my number 1 pit stop and being fed fruit each time. I started grad school a year and a half after my dad passed and everyday it gave me new life; I wish he was here to see it.
