POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Nearly 25 years since the release of the first chapter in the LOTR franchise, and I still get goosebumps during certain scenes.

The trilogy remains ever watchable, holds up with time, and stays firmly rooted in my mind, body and soul.

Here are just a few scenes that wow me time and again.

Tell me in the comments which scenes from LOTR affect you in this way.

With it being Halloween week and all, I wanted this Tolkien Tuesday to be ever-so-slightly moody but I wasn’t keen on leaving off with the elves just yet… so, enjoy Galadriel: Evil Mode.

On February 15, 3019 TA, the Lady Galadriel invited Frodo Baggins to look into the Mirror to see things that were, things that are and some things that have not yet come to pass…

When Frodo peers into the glass-like watery surface of the Mirror he sees a future ahead that feels like a fate worse than death and so offers the One Ring to Galadriel.

These screen caps from The Fellowship of the Ring show the moments of Galadriel’s temptation to become a dark Queen and her ability to resist the yearning for the One Ring’s power.

There was so much costumed fun at the @thebrandywinefestival hobbit LARP I had to make a second video to show you! I feel so happy I got to be part of the first immersive hobbit LARP that was officially approved by Middle Earth Enterprises! There were games, fireworks, food, quests, merrymmaking, and the Tomten Sisters dressmaking shop was a central location for fun. (We already have plans next year so you really need to visit us). For everyone that has been asking: yes there will be another Brandywine Featival! #lotr #middleearth #hobbitcore #costuming #fantasy #thelordoftherings #brandywinefestival

Getting to take part in the first event for @thebrandywinefestival was surreal. My younger and present self were living on cloud nine all week! Both as the elf Elenwë, and as the hobbit Junie Strongwill. All of the attendees, and the team putting on this event were so kind, warm, generous, patient, and giving. There’s nothing like playing pretend with hundreds of people who are as excited about being immersed in a world as you. I didn’t know you could form so many core memories in a single week.
My greatest gratitude to @burgschneider @middleearthent and @beol_art for letting @yong_yea and I take part in this fantastical event.
Can’t wait for next year!!

Although the Amazon handling of the Tolkien universe from a plot standpoint has been problematic for me as a Tolkienite (admittedly season 2 is much better than the first), one thing that the team behind Rings of Power has captured beautifully is the art direction — from sets and special effects to costumes and practical builds. It makes for stunning viewing.

It is interesting how the ROP team chose to handle the Grey Havens set, and I’m not certain it makes perfect sense given the length of time the elves have been present in ME by the time the series begins. Eregion is thriving, while the Grey Havens appears to be just getting started. Be that as it may, its location is in keeping with the LOTR imagery established by Jackson’s team and one can certainly imagine the Grey Havens we see at the end of the trilogy having laid its foundation where ROP places it.

Most importantly, we get to meet Cirdan the Shipwright (easily one of the better handled and casted characters of the ROP series) and learn a bit more about the form and function of the Havens as the means of transporting the elves to the Undying Lands.

Glaive of the High King

Inspired by the one seen in Rings of Power, this beauty is over 2.4 meters long, solid aluminium and just purely awesome!

Digitally sculpted by the main man @dreamextract3d

Hand finished and polished by the super talented @zoe.woodstedstudios

I know the one in the show has a matted speckled weathered look, but ehhhhh we loveeee shiny stuff!

An awe-inspiring look at the sprawling elven city of Eregion will dazzle your eyes. It’s the seat of Lord Celebrimbor, forger of the Rings of Power that eventually form the plot for The Lord of the Rings.

It is here that Celebrimbor is persuaded by Sauron (in disguise as Annatar) to forge the rings that will ensure his stranglehold over the races of Middle-earth. But it is also here that three elven rings (Nenya, Narya, and Vilya) are forged to balance his evil intent and keep him at bay. (And, well, we all know how that goes…)

In the second season of Rings of Power, this beautiful city is brought to ruin at the hands of an Orc army under Sauron’s influence. With it, Celebrimbor meets his end.

What’s your favorite ME setting from the ROP series? Tell me in the comments section.
