I learned to spin in large part because I wanted to make a handspun Traveler one day. I’m so happy with how this turned out.

I’ve been away from my wheel all summer but I’m back into the routine again! Two out of three braids for this combo spin are set to ply and this last @wee.chickadee is prepped and ready to go. I can’t wait to see these come together!

Here's my latest spun skein - yet another 3-ply combo spin! 97g and around 290m. Yet again, my singles are super thin, ranging from lace to light fingering. I guess that's what I do? 🤷‍♀️
This time I let the spun singles "rest" a bit longer before plying them together - and it was a lot easier to handle when some of the "energy" in the singles had the chance to calm down... 🌀⚡️🧶

The first two singles are yet again from Träffström Design: one a natural light coloured Haunui wool and the other a wool and silk blend, dyed into an awesome bright "Neon"! The pure Hanui wool is still easier for me to spin, without the silk addition that can make it a bit more slippery.

The third single is a total combo spin in itself, a mix of smaller varigated braids from Nestfiber and their Valentine calendar earlier this year. Not only a mix of colours but also of wool fiber: Falkland, Cormo, Merino, Silk, Polwarth etc. They’re for sure all different to spin, some smooth and some much more spungy.

Very happy with the final result! 🤗💚

Two years as a spinner 🧶💞
I can’t believe it’s been two years since I spontaneously bought an electric wheel & taught myself to spin yarn. It’s unlocked a whole world of fiber joy that I love so much 🐑

Here’s a look back on my favorite spinning projects & the handspun knits that some of them became ➡️

This gradient handspun using the @thewoodlandpixie 12 day countdown makes my heart flutter 💓

My first big sweater spin! I blended a polwarth/yak comb top with sari silk for this. Making this many rolags is certainly not for the weak of heart but the outcome was SO worth it.

I used that handspun to make my Prospect Pullover!! I love this sweater so much 💕

I have made a few pairs of handspun socks & this pair was my first! I used a scrappy sock fiber bag from @woundupfiberarts & this spin was so fun!

My handspun Avenue Tee!! I cannot tell you how much I love this tee. She’s a cutie!

My first handspun garment was my Avenue Vest 🤎 This was also my first time doing long-draw. I used CVM romeldale roving from @bohlayersorchards 🐑

These woolen-spun mini’s 💚 @thewoodlandpixie makes the best mini batt sets!

I love wearing my handspun knits! My Creativity Shawl (designed for handspun!) & my Prospect Pullover 💕

My husband knitted a scarf for his mom using this handspun of mine 🥹

My most recent handspun knit is my Seaport Shawl. I made rolags using a hand-dyed braid from @cesiumyarn & a mill-blend from @keirawxyz. I love how this one turned out!

And finally, this sweater spin 🤩 I spun six braids in four different colors from @yarnjam. This 3-ply is my boldest & wildest handspun ever & I love every inch of it! I’m currently knitting an Avenue Pullover using this handspun & loving every moment 🥰

My traveler spin is complete!💫

I have about 640 grams of a 3 ply sport that I plan to make into a Traveler Hoodie by @dreareneeknits. I have wanted to spin for a Traveler since before | started spinning! I was so inspired by all of the gorgeous handspun Travelers I was seeing on Rav project pages that I knew I needed one of my very own. I used a bunch of @nestfiber braids for this and I am so very happy with how it’s turned out and cannot wait to see how this knits up!

I used my @daedalusspinningwheels Starling and wow this wheel is incredible. This was a lot of fiber to throw at this wheel and one marathon plying session 🫣 Throughout this
entire spin it was just always ready and able for however long I was spinning singles or plying and stayed consistent and unproblematic. 🙌🏼 Love that so much!! I do think a whirligig is in my near future because I would pull a bobbin off my Starling and using my Niddy Noddy felt like I was stepping out of a Lamborghini and hitching up to a horse and buggy 🫠 guys I am not being dramatic it was A LOT of niddy noddyingggg 😂

Ok fiber details! I divided all of the braids below into thirds and then made an approximately one bazillion little nests of fiber to try and break up the colors as much as possible.

Here's my latest handspun wool skein - and my first 3-ply yarn! 87g and around 180m. The reason for trying a 3-ply is that my singles keep coming out really fine / thin, it seems to be my default spinning style. So if I want to knit with anything other than light fingering yarn, 3-ply seems to be a good idea! 🙃😆

The first two singles are pure combo spins: drafted together 3 bold colours from Nest Fiber and their Valentine calendar. Those two strands turned a bright strawberry red - gorgeous! 🍓🍓

The third single is a varigated Rambouillet called "The fox that flew" from Elkmarket Yarn. Light and earthier tones, and much more slippery for me to spin than the Falkland, Punta Arenas and South American wool from Nest. But really lovely!

Doing a 3-ply was fun, a bit more tricky to ply three singles instead of two and keep the same tension for all the strands. The skein turned out a bit more "unbalanced", it's a bit twisted but will be perfectly fine to knit with!

Colourwise, it surprised me a bit how the overall feeling is more orange than red - by just tempering the raspberry with one strand of varigation. Fun! 🧶🍁🧡

If you see me wearing this every day for the rest of my life be cool about it ok? My handspun Avenue Tee is off the needles and onto my body and I’m not taking it off anytime soon. 🙂‍↕️

I used a Nest Valentine countdown calendar for this spin. It was a combo of different fibers that I mixed up and spun together. I have lots leftover. I’ll weigh it and put all of the fiber and yarn details on my ravelry. I will include my measurements and the garment size and measurements as well. I’m trying to be better about documenting these things ✨

I've not shared too much of my knitting over the last year, but today I felt like doing a wrap-up of what I've knit during 2026 - before starting new knitting projects for the fall! Not all projects mind you, haven't snapped pictures of everything, but at least a selection. 😊

My 3rd "Jaunty" shawl, a sweet pattern by @dreareneeknits that I used a mix of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool, @_hellostella_ and @cosyposyyarnco wool - love this one, finally got the right mix of colours! 🌈 The first 2 shawls have been given new homes, and hopefully will be well loved there.

Secondly, a 2-ply spin that ended up between a fingering and sport weight yarn. The colourway is called "Chirp" and is a 100% Falkland wool from Nestfiber Studio - happy colours and a simple spin - but a bit inconsistent in my plying perhaps... But I'm getting better! 🧶🐤

Using awesome yarns from @cosyposyyarnco (Fluff and Posh MCN held double in the colours "Hey Delilah!" and "Forage") I made the "Daft Days Cardigan" by Rebecca Clow. Still missing buttons but will add those in the fall - it's a super warm cardigan not quite suited for the summer. I made a modification to the neckline, made it more open as the design was a bit too close to the neck for my liking. Happy with the colours and texture!

And finally, my "Traveler Cowl" by Andrea Mowry - in a squishy mix of colours and fibers by Hello Stella, Moondrake, Lille Rille Design and Camellia Fiber Co. Love the texture and squish - will for sure make another one this winter, this time in darker colours!

Let's end this summer vacation with a finished hank of handspun wool yarn! 🧶 Tomorrow, back to work I go...

A 2-ply combo spin, that ended up somewhere around a sport weight yarn. The braids I used were from @elkmarketyarn ("Radioactive Fawn", 100% Corriedale) and @nestfiber ("State of Mind", 100% Falkland wool). Both lovely to spin - even if I as a spinner is still a bit inconsistent... 🙃🤐

Approx. 330m and 108g and currently no true plans for what I will knit with it - but my spinning journey will continue! 💚🐑
