On view this week — Anticipating the likes of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, Clarice Lispector, and Leonora Carrington, artists whose cultural legacies actively defy categorical enclosure, Mina Loy (1882-1966) is an inimitable figure in the history of arts and letters. The British-born poet, playwright, novelist, painter, designer of lamps, and bohemian remains a singularly intrageneological persona within early 20th-century avant-garde circles—moving through Futurism, Dada, and Surrealism—without being fully subsumed by any. While she engaged closely with Marinetti, Duchamp, and Picabia, her writing and visual practice were uniquely sensitive to the perils of female embodiment and consciousness within the ambit of surrounding Modernisms and emigrant identity in the wake of European fascisms; her Feminist Manifesto of 1914 stands among the most unsparing and formally radical texts of its era. Since the publication of the recently rediscovered manuscript for her autofictional text “Islands in the Air,” written through the ‘40s and ‘50s, and newly introduced and edited by Karla Kelsey in “Lost Writings: Two Novels by Mina Loy” (Yale University Press, 2024), I have wanted to channel the way she builds a mythology of bodily and artistic becoming via jagged, fragmentary clauses and aeromorphic poetics—a manner at once expansively cosmological and only flickeringly forthcoming respective to its herme(neu)tics—into an exhibitionary form tracing a similarly elliptical orbit between material intelligences and the defense of their secrets. Honored that Karla herself would join in these efforts to pen a gorgeous exhibition text for the exhibition, befitting the work of Imogen Brent, Vanesa Gingold, Bridget Hamel, Madelyn Kellum, Naoki Sutter-Shudo, and Kenneth Winterschladen. The exhibition is on view Thurs-Sat, 12-5pm, and by appointment, through August 16th at @cheremoya_la Left: Imogen Brent, Rear Sight (Nest), 2025. Steel, found iron sight, 23 1/2 x 21 x 4 in. Right: Kenneth Winterschladen, Untitled (fan), 2025. Oil and collage on panel, 32 x 54 in. @imi_b @nethwinter #imogenbrent #kennethwinterschladen #minaloy #cheremoyala

One week remaining to view “Islands in the Air,” Cheremoya’s tribute to the life and work of British-born poet, playwright, lampwright, feminist, painter Mina Loy (1882-1966). Open today 12-5. Above: Exhibition view of Kenneth Winterschladen’s “Ecce,” 2025. Oil on panel, 22 x 39 1/4 in / 56 x 100 cm “Cheremoya sits within a three-mile radius of the City of Angels’ Griffith Observatory and Forest Lawn Cemetery—sites that channel energies essential to the iconoclastic writer, artist, and designer Mina Loy’s lifelong engagement with the celestial and the terrestrial. Under her Stellatric signs, the gallery has become an island of contemporary fissionscape debris, internal blooms, rose hips, architectural fragments, wreck sites, and moons. […] Kenneth Winterschladen refuses to allow us to forget the materiality of the image even as we are absorbed in the fan form’s support of a lily, a mantle, a moon. Across the cartouche, red planets transmigrate over pearl skies. Layered opacities stutter open the eye as lilies breathe into the room the eye-white sky-light white-light district of lunar lust — — — Stellactric signs —Mina Loy, ‘Lunar Baedecker’“ – Karla Kelsey “Islands in the Air,” the gallery’s tribute to the work of Mina Loy (1882-1966), has been extended through August 23rd, with open hours Thurs-Sat, 12-5pm. @nethwinter @cheremoya_la #kennethwinterschladen #minaloy #cheremoyala

Please enjoy a small selection of my favourite moments from the last year in the pumice-verse. Exhibitions and events are like diamonds, their glimmer and shine is a product of a long relational process of refinement, distillation, and compression. As we say goodbye to 2025 and the pumice raft gallery space on Ryding avenue, I’m happy to share some images not of the diamonds but of the matter that matters and the people that made it all happen. Long live Pumice Raft and stay tuned to see where it floats in 2026!

hey feeling extreme zeitgeistmode with Biz @markfisherquotes's brilliant article about Godposting coinciding with The Gnosis Show and the talk we hosted with @jackjubb and @alygunawan at @daisysroom.gallery 😵‍💫 the overlaps go insane, go see the works up on gnosis.show ~ the website was made by the genius @dudelini <3 + coincidentally overwhelmed closing the @kem.warsaw School program with conversations with Alex @baczynski.j about choreography as cosmology as cybernetics -- that's for another post maybe there's also reza negarestani's quasi cosmological spiral diagram — a @textbasedposts_ classic — which was my submission to @spiral_spore_encyclopaedia that esoterically bonded us forever <3 + also back in Poland bumping into global networks conspiracy theory diagrams by Mark Lombardi at an amazing ms1 łódź exhibition curated by Jakub Gawkowski too much to disentangle endless loop endless haunt bye!! 😛🤘⭐️
