Our 15th Design Camp is officially in the books and what an unforgettable four days it was. Designers from all over came together to learn, grow, and connect in the most intentional way possible. Between inspiring sessions, hands-on workshops, and heartfelt conversations over shared meals and late-night drinks, it was a reminder of why we do what we do. This week wasn’t just about building better businesses. It was about building community. Thank you to every camper, speaker, and partner who made this Design Camp one for the books. 💛

I had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion at High Point Market this past weekend, hosted at @universalfurn Nick had to fill in for Julia Nikishina from @newagefinancialconsulting due to a cancelled flight, but we had a great discussion with Daniel Paul from @tomstringerdesignpartners, where we explored the behind the scenes of what it takes to run a design firm’s financial and operational systems!

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗜’𝗺 𝗮 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿. ✨ (Surprising to hear that from a number-obsessed accounting and financials expert, I know. 🤓) I dream big, I aim high, and I want to do it all perfectly. It’s something I’ve carried with me since childhood, likely from my parents. We immigrated to the US when I was 8, and they taught me hard work could build anything. But this retreat really showed me the importance of rooting dreams in reality. Because it’s only when dreams are grounded in reality that they can be truly powerful experiences for all people involved. So organizing this retreat was an exercise in balance: ✨ Actualizing my vision using the resources at hand. ✨ Bridging my vision with what designers wanted from our retreat. The lesson I learned: 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗸𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹. It’s natural to want to fill an auditorium. But in those intimate breakout sessions? That’s where the magic happened: - Real connections are made - Specific, actionable advice gets shared - “Aha” moments help attendees achieve their goals Long story short: 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗯𝗶𝗴, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹. 💫 Because sometimes, that’s exactly where the most meaningful impact is made. 💡 → How do you balance big dreams with real-world planning? Let’s talk in the comments!

Reposted from Julia Nikishina (@newagefinancialconsulting) 10 years ago, I sent a strongly-worded email about a buggy software update in Studio Designer. I had no idea it would spark a long-lasting and successful partnership with a key figure in the industry… I’d been using Studio Designer since 2008, when I landed my first interior design client. By 2015, it was the only software I used. When it came to interior design, it outpaced all other software by miles. I knew every feature, quirk, and capability of the software. So when they released their 2.0 update with significant issues, I couldn’t stay quiet. I sent in a lengthy email with a list of features in need of attention. To my surprise I got a response. The responder: Keith Granet (@kgranet ), Studio Designer’s new CEO. 💫 Keith had a vision. Coming from Gensler’s architecture world, he saw Studio Designer’s potential to revolutionize how designers managed their finances. But what he didn’t have was someone in the trenches, dealing with Studio on a daily basis. Over the next decade, we developed a unique partnership: - Regular meetings with their dev team - Deep dives into user experience - Constant refinement of features We made an unlikely pair: ➤ Him: Big picture visionary focused on long-term growth ➤ Me: Detail-obsessed accountant who lived in the software daily But that’s what I’ve learned about great partnerships: They’re built on complementary perspectives. ☯️ While Keith saw the forest, I saw each tree. Together, we could spot blind spots neither would catch alone. After years of respectful and consistent collaboration, Studio Designer truly stands as the gold standard in interior design financial management. 🎉 That’s why I’m thrilled to invite you to join Keith and I this February for the Studio Designer User’s Conference! At this intimate 3-day workshop in Miami, we’ll share all the strategies we’ve collected over our combined 25+ years working with Studio to teach you how to fully leverage it and maximize your profits in 2025. 💫 #interioredesigners #interiordesignerbusinesstips #interiordesignerbusiness #taxseason #taxtips #smartfinances #accountingservices
