Hello, Seward Park Campus! My name is Mina, and I am your friendly librarian! We have five schools in the building, and the library is a great place to meet your fellow campus members, read books, play games, and enjoy some downtime. Come before school, at lunch (but eat in the cafeteria first!), or afterschool, and be sure to visit our website for our catalog, calendar, and request forms! Don’t be a stranger! Come say “hi!”

This summer 13 young artists spent five days in the studio with me piloting something I’ve been dreaming about for a while...Sound Design for Sound Mind. 🎧✨They worked like DJs, producers, journalists and sound designers all at once. They reflected on their own mental health and social-emotional learning. And ultimately, they developed dynamic audio compositions that told a story that mattered to them. Huge thank you to @culturehub_org for allowing us to incubate this idea during their annual summer program CoLab! We learned so much and now we’re building upon this summer’s success with a full-year course! The school year starts tomorrow and @HipHopReEducation will officially be launching #SoundDesignForASoundMind in all of our classes! Beyond excited to bring this approach to our work at @newdesignhigh, blending audio production, sound science, and social-emotional learning into one experience. Same mission, bigger soundscape: give young people the tools to create, reflect, and grow. Say word!

In July, we launched our first ever Chinatown Summer Arts Program 🖼️ in collaboration with @newdesignhigh! 🏫

In a week, these wonderful high schoolers created their own physical art portfolio 📒 ranging in a wide breadth of artistic practices including:

✍️writing
🖊️markers
🧑‍🎨watercolor
🗡️block printing
✏️colored pencils
📰✂️collaging
⛲️urban drawing at Washington Square Park
🖋️and black and white ink.

💫Teaching and learning from these kids gave me such deep hope in the world. The desire for creative self expression is so alive in all generations.

🫶 Thank you so much to @newdesignhigh, @sparkcampuslibrary, and @apexforyouth for being wonderful partners to work with. I can’t wait to keep working together to bridge the gap to create accessible arts education for all. Big thank you to @kintsugi.print for teaching a block printing workshop and to @colorfactoryco for working with us on such a wonderful field trip! And another thank you to @apollobagels for supplying us with delicious 🥯🧃

We are continuing to work on grant funding to not only continue this program next year 😮 but build out a robust arts elective program at @newdesignhigh. More to come! 🎉
