Day 39 | Colorado 🏔️🇺🇸

From New Mexico to Colorado, it genuinely felt like I had entered an entirely different world.

The landscapes, the mountains, the endless open roads. Every turn revealed something more spectacular than the last. After 39 days of riding across America, Colorado has reminded me just how beautiful this journey really is.

Climbing Loveland Pass at nearly 12,000 feet was one of the most breathtaking experiences of the trip so far. But with that beauty came an entirely new set of challenges.

The following morning, I experienced some of the coldest conditions I’ve ever ridden in. And I won’t lie, it started to worry me a little. We’re not even in winter yet.

There’s something special about the contrast between the beauty of these landscapes and the harsh reality of cycling through them.

39 days in, and America continues to surprise me.

A little late with this one. The fatigue has been catching up with me over the past week.

The weather has been relentless, with howling headwinds and freezing temperatures becoming the norm. New Mexico was the coldest yet, hitting -9°C at sunrise.

The landscapes have been incredible. Vast, open stretches of land, endless horizons and colours that seem to change by the mile. Beautiful to ride through, but also a reminder of just how harsh it can get out here. And we’re not even into deep winter yet.

Despite the tough conditions, we’ve had a great week off the bike too, with three community activations — two with @riserecoverlive and one with @outride at @bikeclubtulsa Meeting incredible people from all walks of life and hearing their stories continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

We’re now in Colorado and have had our first taste of the big mountains. Something tells me there’s plenty more climbing ahead. ✊🏽

I was fortunate to fly to Colorado to present at @standtogether Catalyst Community Summit about the social change and empowerment technology that @newform_community is building and of course, while I was presenting, I added in more than a bit about The Phoenix community’s amazing work. The Summit is a gathering of hundreds of nonprofits creating social change across our communities and country through everyday people coming together around a shared problem to solve it, through principles like bottom up empowerment, believing in the dignity of all people and mutual benefit. Knowing I was going to be blessed to be with so many special leaders, I decided to wear my Be The People shirt.

I knew I would get to share time with those of the “we the people” who have chosen to Be The People our country needs. And you can too; volunteer or donate for any of these orgs, or @riserecoverlive . Or just pull on a Be The People shirt and help make your community better. If you do, please tag @bethepeople in your post about how you are helping.

This is the bike I’ve been riding across America for the past 38 days! 🚴‍♂️🇺🇸

Day 38 📍 Denver, Colorado

The long-awaited bike check is finally here!

38 days, thousands of miles, and countless memories later, here’s a closer look at my one-of-one, custom-painted Specialized Diverge.

But what makes this bike even more special is what happens when the journey ends.

At the conclusion of these 60 days, this very bike will be auctioned off in partnership with @outride , supporting a cause much bigger than cycling itself. Helping more young people experience the physical, mental, and social benefits of riding a bike.

It’s pretty incredible knowing that something carrying me across America will eventually help create opportunities for others.

38 days down. 22 to go. 🇺🇸

Week 5 of Ride The Nation is now LIVE on YouTube! 🎥🚴‍♂️

This week has been one of the toughest yet. Travelling through Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, we’ve battled relentless headwinds, freezing mornings, heavy rain and thunderstorms. Some of the most challenging conditions I’ve experienced throughout this entire journey.

But amongst the chaos, we also had some incredible moments connecting with the communities at Bike Club Tulsa and The Phoenix in Wichita, hearing powerful stories of resilience, recovery and the importance of having the right people around you.

Five weeks in, and this journey continues to test me in ways I never imagined.

The full Week 5 episode is now available on my YouTube channel. Head over to watch, leave a comment and subscribe to follow the rest of our journey across America!
