It’s World Art Day so what better way to celebrate than to shine a light on the New Light Prize winners currently in our Gallery!

The New Light Prize Exhibition celebrates and promotes the best of Northern art, with a prestigious panel of judges selecting over 120 artworks with 5 prize winners, including:

George Melling, winner of the New Light Emerging Artists Prize | Now living in Lancashire, George uses photographs of family and friends from his childhood to examine themes of time, social class, loss, morality, and love.

Robert Cook, winner of the New Light Patron’s Choice Award | Currently living in Poulton-le-Fylde, Robert is a wildlife artist who seeks to create narratives of birds in their habitats by drawing inspiration from the countryside.

Neil Bousfield, winner of the New Light Printmakers Prize sponsored by Zillah Bell Gallery | From Middlesborough and now living in Norfolk, Neil uses the landscapes around him to influence his relief printmaking and contemporary wood engraving.

Christine Stables, winner of the New light Purchase Prize | Christine lives in Stockport, Cheshire and is an abstract artist, mixing her own colours to suit her work without feeling restricted, reflected in her vibrant and unique paintings.

Frances Bell, winner of the New Light Valeria Sykes Prize | Born and raised in Suffolk but now living in Wooler, near Newcastle, Frances is a full-time professional portrait and landscape artist.

Our Gallery is open daily | Free entry

Tonight was the night of the New Light Prize Exhibition hosted at Tullie House in Carlisle.

Still amazing to be a part of this exhibition after all the lockdowns and challenges this year has brought!

Make sure you check out the physical exhibition if you can make it to Carlisle and the online Exhibiton via the gallery and new light itself!

My extremely talent friend @barbarara.prada’s recent preview of her research work into how light and movement resonate with us. Rather than just producing a skilfully engineered and highly artistic exhibit to be observed, the real goal was to help create emotional experiences for visitors by guiding them to feel the emotions and memories evoked by each effect. And like all good artists, that’s what she did. Superb work.

Hugely #proud to say that our tiny team @newlightart has done it again and got the #newlightart Prize Exhibition open!

Getting seventy-two #artists and nearly 100 pieces of work together for a year-long touring #exhibition (with associated education and events programmes) is no mean feat and I need to say a big #thankyou to everybody at our fourth and final venue @tulliehousemuseum for been so lovely to work with!

Even if I say it myself, it is a fantastic exhibition and includes work by some of the finest #northernartists working today. The show runs until #january 2019 so get over to #carlisle #cumbria and have a look for yourself!
