Last week we spoke with Jerry X’Lingson of @nextgen.ventures on Standouts.

Jerry breaks down what it took to walk away from the "safe path" his family mapped out (the melbourne conveyor belt, the linear life) and bet on himself instead. from putting his chinese new year red pocket money into his first stocks to falling into crypto and a global community of teenage risk-takers to co-founding a fund whose portfolio now stacks up multiple forbes 30 under 30s. this is a conversation about ambition, identity, and what it actually takes to back yourself young.

If you are weighing the safe linear path against betting on yourself, trying to work out what your "spike" really is, or wondering whether ambition is a young person's game, this one is for you.

The episode is on our YouTube & Spotify.

A 19-year-old from North Queensland just landed backing from @ycombinator

His startup, GrazeMate, is using autonomous drones to change how cattle are mustered, cutting labour, saving time, and reducing the physical load on farmers.

From the Australian outback to YC’s W26 cohort in San Francisco, this is a rare case of local farming knowledge turning into globally relevant tech.

One more reminder that some of the smartest innovation comes from people solving problems they grew up with.

Thanks to AI, it’s never been easier to start a business…

But is it that same tech that’s pushing so many uni grads down the entrepreneurial pathway out of necessity?
