The Birthday Party is in the BOOKS!!! 🎉🥣🍾🐖💦

This show has been a blast — it’s rare that I enjoy a group of people more, or understand a script less (I thiiiiiink I’m starting to get it…!) Lots of thanks to @aristheatre for this exhilarating and mind-bending opportunity, and for everyone in cast and crew for being the absolute coolest. I’d party with you cats any time.

This one goes out to all the ladies in the audience who commented on my ripped stockings. You see me, and you get it.

some BTS & some thoughts: the whiplash an artist gets from being around other creatives then going back to their “pay the bills job” should be studied. i feel like we laugh about it just to stay sane. soo i would like to formally petition the world to leave creates alone to create. for free. starting now.

People are awesome. I’m grateful for those in my life. Here’s me and my dad.

Here’s me and my longtime friend/collaborator Ben.

Here’s my buddy Ernie doing his thing. He’s got a fun storytelling event called Mixtape.

Here’s my dad, Janet and Mac. Mac loves Janet.

Here’s my buddy Mighty Mike McGee, the unofficial mayor of San Jose. I got to participate in a wonderful monthly storytelling event that he hosts.

Here’s Profesora Fabi!!

Here’s singer/songwriter Gina Chavez. Consider me her newest and biggest fan!

Here’s Alanna Ubach! She’s just the best teacher and human.

Here’s James Talarico! Can you see how excited I am?!

Here’s my Tía y Tío in México City. I spent my summer with them when I was twelve.

Here’s my talented friends Janine and Tracii after my show that they came to see! 🙌🏽

Melinda, Dan and Paige were in “God Of Carnage.” Tom and I went to see their talentedness.

Here’s my friend John. What a gift he is. 😊

Here are my talented friends Nhadyne and Joi. We karaoke’d the fk out of that karaoke!

Here’s Mayor Brandon Johnson. So damn down to earth.

Here’s my heart. Folks call her V. ❤️

Who told us we were supposed to have everything figured out by 30?

In a Sentimental Mood was born, in part, from that question.

We’re creating a story about a Black woman entering her 30s who, for one night, gives herself permission to explore a part of herself she’s kept hidden.

And we’re telling that story through Black queer characters, vulnerability, intimacy, jazz, and the kind of romantic cinematic language that made us fall in love with films like Love Jones and In the Mood for Love. 🎷🤎

Now we need your help bringing it to life.

Your donation doesn’t just “fund a movie.” It helps us pay our cast and crew, feed people on set, cover transportation, and take care of the artists helping us tell this story.

If you’ve been waiting to support In a Sentimental Mood, this is the moment.

Can’t donate? Share this Reel. Send it to somebody who believes stories like this deserve to exist.

Let’s make this one together. 🤎

We didn’t want to say anything until everything was official and clear…

but…

WE WON THE ATLANTA FRINGE FESTIVAL HOMEGROWN AWARD!

Babylon Is An Action Verb is now an award-winning play, thanks to your support, and thanks to the tireless work of a phenomenal team.

Thank you seems insufficient, but in my joy, gratitude is all I can find.

So thank you.
