Happy BBC Children in Need day, an incredible fundraising event. I’ve shot quite a few films for this in the past, they were so much fun to make. Here’s a clip of @realscottmills and @edibow perfecting Beethoven’s concerto for Nose Flute and Pan Pipes :)

Grand Designs is 25.

It was an amazing story of a couple, each with two daughters and a baby on the way, setting out to build a home from scratch on the cliffs above Newhaven. Their dream was for the baby to be born in the new house.

I filmed them for one day, cut the footage together, VHS to VHS and from that the first series of Grand Designs was commissioned. This was the first episode.

The commission happened so quickly we didn’t even know how long the show would be. It was my first long-form directing project, and by the nature of the subject matter it was hard to plan ahead. I was shooting 3 episodes simultaneously and I operated with a mix of intuition and nerves. Anyway, it turned out well, and incredible to see the series is still going.

The lovely clip at the end is when Kevin McCloud recently revisited Tim and Jules to see how the house worked out for them.

By the way if it wasn’t obvious, the music reference I gave for the titles was Edward Scissorhands.

Trying to catch that feeling, when you get together with good people over good food

A bit more @lufthansa in-flight safety film. With a huge LED screen there is so much potential. We used a combination of AI generated plates and @unrealengine created scenes. Amazing but always a technical challenge, especially getting movement and perspective perfect.

Earlier this year I shot the new in-flight safety video for @Lufthansa. A hyperreal journey from Munich to Tokyo, Cape Town, Jaipur, New York and finally back to Munich. Shot on LED screens with partial set builds to give realistic foregrounds for our cast. Here’s an edit of the video, grab a @lufthansa ticket for the full show!
