🎭✨ “An encouraging sign for the future of American storytelling.” — DC Theatre Arts

Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts Department of Theatre Arts proudly presented Young Griots: New Works for the Stage, featuring four original one-act plays by student playwrights Essence Jackson, Kevoy Somerville, Joycelyn Sophia Jackson, and Efeoghene Rhonor, directed by Professor Denise J. Hart.

💬 In his review for @dctheaterarts, Gregory Ford writes that Young Griots “offered visions of a way forward” and left him feeling “a sense of hope that continued to grow as each successive play unfolded.”

👏🏾 Congratulations to our student writers and performers for bringing powerful new voices and stories to the stage — and to Professor Hart (@denisejoyhart) for guiding the next generation of storytellers with excellence and care.

Young Griots: New works for the Stage

Blessed to be a part of the inaugural cast of this year’s production at the Chadwick A Boseman College of Fine Arts. Worked with some incredibly talented & hardworking individuals. Not trying to write a whole paper on IG, but from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate this experience.
