The MVPs of today are my mom and gramma.
OBVIOUSLY.

And... in this chapter of my life, I’m starting to find the roles of sister and mother fairly synonymous.

Over the last few years, my life has become surrounded by women across generations; women who constantly trade places with me in the roles of teacher, caretaker, protector, nurturer, listener, giver, and receiver.

Sometimes I’m the one holding them while they cry. Sometimes they’re feeding me, housing me, loving me back to myself, or reminding me who I am. Sometimes I offer guidance. Sometimes I need it deeply.

My sisters have been second mothers to me since the day I was born. My mom has become one of my best friends. And my multi-generational friendships have shown me that motherhood is so much bigger than biology. Sometimes it looks like advice. Sometimes it looks like a meal. Sometimes it looks like being witnessed, protected, comforted, or simply stayed beside.

I feel incredibly lucky to live inside that constant energetic exchange of care; to both give it and receive it so freely.

Happy Mother’s Day to every woman in my life who has mothered me, helped raise me, protected me, fed me, held me, taught me, and loved me through every version of myself. The cycle continues.

I think about this session daily. It was published in @sarzemagazine in 2021. @nessakodo @niashayes really pulled out all the stops as models. @kiraports was also there grabbing photos. What a great day. I hope I get to collaborate like this again soon.

31 really woke me up at midnight and said, “Happy birthday bitch, here’s 4 hours of irrational fears, let’s get to work.” 🎂😂

So this year is feelin like:
🧠: I’m scared.
🫀: Yeah yeah, noted. Onward.

A semi-accurate, imperfect, chaotic, emotionally diverse photo dump of a life update

1. Externally: “Smile.”
Internally: “Get angry, but get rest. Be soft, but be ruthless. Stand up for yourself, but keep an open mind. Contemplate. Analyze. Reflect. But laugh - it ain’t that deep. Don’t try to be cool - be warm. Be the love you are, not the love you seek. Listen beyond yourself, and choose from within yourself…” 🧠💭🌀

2. Life doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints. It takes and it takes and it takes - and we keep living anyway

3. I like my dinners like I like my awareness: elevated.

4-5. Light work ain’t light work, y’all. Fuckin’ WOOF. 🕯️

6. Dad stays camera-ready. #pockethairbrush

7. Plot twist: creating art and learning how to receive recognition for that art are two different skills. Still figuring out how to feel when something made in solitude gets applauded in public. Very grateful my family gave me the space to feel all the complicated things that came with this evening.

8. The Thomas sisters: perpetually in Cahoots

9. Just another night at the Thomas house #Bachwards

10. Moments captured during a deep breath

11. Sometimes the lesson is simply to soften

12. You know it was a good night when you wake up with a cracked phone screen

13-17. Sleigh bells & shenanigans

18-19. People are the best thing that can happen to anyone

20. System reboot in progress: clearing the emotional cache

1. Note to self: no-makeup looks pair well with Mexico. Sweater pantsuits do not.

2. A peek inside my brain

3. I will take 1 severely hungover hour with you over not seeing you for months ANY DAY

4. “Let’s be in the middle of a séance when they walk in.”

5-8. MVP goes to @kacieclaire for being my travel agent, roommate, therapist, and proud stage mom this whole trip. 🏆 Gold Glove goes to @thegracepiper for fielding all of the emotions that came up for me while being back in L.A. and helping me process them 🫠 So lucky to have had you both with me ♥️🤟🏼

9. “I enjoyed seeing you, you were honestly one of the highlights of my trip. I value your friendship and appreciate your counsel. You are one of my favorite humans and I’m so glad I met you in this life.” Get you a friend like @mandla.96 🥹😭🤟🏼🩷

10. Fall walks & deep talks

11. Big moves & bigger wine glasses 🍷

12. @may_be_fern fangirls 🙋🏻‍♀️

13. A lil park date never hurt nobody... except when mama gets run over with a scooter.

14. La Foret fam’s next gen (thank you for sharing @sam_teaches_history 🥹)
