Practicing holding on the start line. 2 mins! With some fast forwards 😅

This involves waiting for backwards flow, pushing the boom out and pushing the tiller (to stay on starboard tack), straighten up the rudder when reversing, then main on, shoot up and take the momentum out to sit in space again.

Tricky to do at first, but a lot of fun to practice. Thanks to Nic for his guidance 🙌

When I first learnt to reverse I learnt to push the boom across to the other side…. And that became a habit. But now I need more situational awareness and that’s no good on a start line where changing tack makes things harder. So I’m learning new tricks!

ONE YEAR of learning to sail my Aero. I’m making progress, and having a blast and that is what it’s all about.

This is the moment we rounded Tasman Island, with a golden red sunrise accompanying us into the Derwent.

FINAL DAY
No one will forget that final evening onboard. The wind was howling at 30 knots, and the seastate was cruel & raw. To make matters worse, you could barely see your hand in front of your face.

Our course to round Tasman Island was tight, we had to sail super low, which in those conditions is like threading the eye through a needle for 6 hours straight without being able to see your hands. The risk of a tiny error is catastrophic, and we were so so close to the finish line.

The sun coming up as we rounded Tasman Island and saw the famous Organ Pipes was special. Dolphins guided us up the Derwent and we passed another boat with some tidy navigation & tactics - meaning we went up 7 places in around 8 hours.

When we got to Constitution Dock, we were honoured by the love we received. Seeing crews from some of the best like @masterlock_ahoyclub_comanche and @asklawconnect giving us a standing ovation was insane.

We were handed a case of cold local beer and a scollop pie and raised a toast to Veloce.

DAY 3 RECAP
The only thing we were missing was the champagne, day 3 was a pearler across the Bass Straight.

Starting off with light winds, Veloce soared, proving she's not just a heavy weather enthusiast. As the wind filled in she really took flight, with the boat averaging 14.7kts over an 8 hour period. The keel hummed, the dolphins flocked, and the crew felt reborn after an epic Turkey Bolognese by @casagrazing.

As the sun set on the 3rd day, we knew there was something brewing off the coast of Tasmania, although nothing could have prepared us for the final 12 hours. More to come.
