What happens when you decide to ride basically every major street in downtown Birmingham? You end up with one very long, very questionable bike ride. 😂

The goal of the BHM Urban Assault Crit XL was simple: keep turning until we had covered as much of downtown Birmingham’s street grid as possible. By the end of the day, we estimate we hit about 95% of the major streets, weaving back and forth across the city and seeing Birmingham from just about every possible angle.

Huge shoutout to everyone who joined along the way, especially Jack Osborne and Bradley Bascon for sticking it out for the entire ride. There are still a few streets we missed, which means technically the mission isn’t finished yet. 👀🚲

This Saturday, we’re taking on 73.6 miles through downtown Birmingham, covering nearly every major street in the city! 🚲🏙️

We’ll roll out at 7:00 AM from the corner of 24th Street North and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. Plan for roughly 5–6 hours of riding, with plenty of opportunities along the way to stop for food, drinks, and a quick break. All ability levels are welcome, but keep in mind that 73 miles is a big day on the bike, so we’ll maintain a steady pace to keep things moving. We expect to finish in the Highland Park area around noon–1 PM.

Please come prepared! Bring plenty of water and snacks, front and rear lights, and high-visibility clothing or a safety vest 🦺. With this much time spent riding city streets, being visible and looking out for one another is a priority.

The desire lines that we etched with a repetitive motion have been reclaimed. Daily work now overgrown. The years wipe things away.
I’m not even angry anymore and still we don’t speak.
Maybe my life has been better for it. Maybe yours too. Other versions of ourselves will know but not us. Not these versions. Somewhere out there they found love and joy amongst forgiveness and acceptance.
