Weekend recap: Started things off living my best life—soaking in the river and hot springs. Absolute perfection… until a bear decided our cooler looked like a tasty treat. 🐻🧀
Found the cooler rolled down the hill, every single beer punctured, and most of the food gone. The only thing he graciously left behind was a couple slices of turkey. Very considerate. 😂
Finished the weekend climbing #Crystal Crag in Mammoth, where my internal dialogue was about 90% “What the actual WTF am I doing?” 🫣😅 Definitely pushed me outside my comfort zone, but somehow we all made it back to the car with nothing more than tired legs, sore forearms, and our dignity… mostly intact.
Huge shoutout to Erica for always being willing to sign up for these completely unnecessary sufferfests with me. ❤️ Because apparently “relaxing weekends” just aren’t our thing. Next adventure… Denver🫣🧗‍♀️. #mountaindew #bahablast #type2fun #mommothlakes

“We are meant to know the land and learn the land by going out in it”

A chapter has closed on another winter working and living in the Sierra Nevada, and a little time in the San Juans. It was a winter defined by anomalies, especially in climate seasonality; it was a winter to reflect on our relationship with the land, and with tragedy. Still, the bonds that tie us to this land and to each other continued to grow ever stronger. The drive to experience and learn together flourished not in spite of, but because of, every defeat, every loss. It is a privilege to call this land home and these people dear friends. Here is to more time together learning the land and being richer for it.

There is a belief among many I find myself surrounded by, that it’s always out there somewhere. The best of these are those willing to look, and carry the flame when we lose the light. This season, though bleak, made me grateful for those people and their never ending passion to go looking in the shady nooks and crannies, and for those who were lost in the pursuit.
