What is a Coach?

If you call yourself a coach, if you’re striving to be called a coach, if you have any desire to coach…

You need to coach.

Far too many people in this online era tout themselves as coaches yet the only thing they’ve ever coached is themselves staring into their phones.

I’m taking about strength coaches, tactical coaches, life coachee, etc.

“You’re Not an Expert Until Someone Invites You into their life as one.”
- @coach_brettb

We need more good coaches…

If you’re looking for a coach find someone who’s gotten their hands dirty. Someone who’s had experience, has high standards and has trained others to hold those same standards.

You can pay someone to tell you stories about their cool experiences, or work with someone who will help you rise to the level necessary for you to have your own experiences.

“In the absence of true leadership, false prophets appear.”
- @johnwelbourn

Ultimately if you want to be a coach, you need to lead.

Show others the passion and compassion you have for what and who you are coaching.

Coach, fail, correct, coach more, and one day you’ll have enough experience to earn the title of “Coach.”

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

- Matthew 5:16

Do people call you “coach?” Why?

•DRIVING 200 MPH•

Set up this drill today to work visual aggression and faster target transitions. I was striving for transitions from target to target below .25, and splits on target to be around .18-.20.

A law enforcement buddy shooting with me asked if this drill was only for competition, and not an engagement strategy for an OIS because of the speed at which we were shooting around the no-shoots or “hostages”.

The best analogy I’ve heard to answer this is relatable to most cops. If you’re at the drive track running laps, and learn to do so at 200 mph, all of a sudden driving 100 mph doesn’t seem so fast.

My current training focuses most on pushing my limits in speed, accuracy, and movement; with the hopes that when the day comes I can drive 100 mph with 200 mph training.

*Disclaimer: Not saying my shooting is 200 mph quality yet, but that’s where I’m headed.*

Time: 2.72
4 A 4 C (Headshots on targets from previous drill)
HF: 11.76

BIG FISH IN A SMALL POND

Shot a local match last night, and overall felt decent with my performance. This was one of my best stages, and I thought I was doing well until I switched bays in time to see @only__pham run the same stage. He was 4 seconds faster on this short stage. 4 SECONDS!!!

Never get complacent, and never think because you may be the best shooter amongst your friends, agency, or squad that you’ve got it all figured out.

There’s ALWAYS a bigger pond.

•TRAINING WITH INTENTION•

Understanding what can be accomplished with one simple drill will save you time, money (ammo), and effort.

Ran this drill during the “Fun House” at the @jbs_traininggroup American Gas Gun Course. Only 6 rounds needed if you don’t miss like I did, and tons of value compared to a static 6 round COF like the Bill Drill.

Lot’s of things to improve on, but can anyone notice what I did wrong on my transition from the cardboard targets to the steel?
