Twenty Spicolis in the photo and at least @ashlynnmalia + Jim’s friend + Ryan’s friend made for an attendance of at least 23 on a hot hot hot Friday (97 on the beach!) with small waves, heat glass, and crystal clear fishful waters. Jim and Akua hung out and discussed allergies and cytopoint. Max barely made the photo. Nick has the metabolism of a cheetah. Kam can’t stay long because he has to go inspire the next generation. Vik brought my board back and got a good day at the Bu. Ioulia came because of Syd and Vanessa came because of Ioulia and everything just seems to have an intertwined origin story. Amanda was scared to surf the first time she came to crew. Anthony has enough material for two albums and might stack his singles. Tory! I didn’t get to say hi to you ☹️. Justin rocked up on a motorcycle much to my chagrin. Ben - what’s up? Vanessa got to take a day trip thanks to Dom. Fetish is back from his tropical getaway in Laguna. Alex can’t surf today. Zoe is going to placebo her way away from that mri doc; Max has an ugly sweater to go with his soap; Ryan is back with a friend who is stoked to be the last guy to put on a wetsuit; Quincy’s back hurts; and Samantha’s still making it work. Some of the crew swung by our celebration and we got to see a nice house. My mentor said “Life is a series of hills and valleys. Everyone can handle the hills- they take care of themselves. But the valleys are where you’ll develop your character.” So be like the man practicing yoga by the sea and smile while you still can. 🤙🏼😘🏋🏽

@charlottemwirth @tylie.thecreator @iouiouls @nmb73399 @jstnquiane @brothawoods.1096 and their two friends all missed the photo but brought attendance to a healthy 31 Spicolis on an eventually immaculate Friday that burned off some Playa fog. Noey sang at her flag ceremony so I surfed before the 🍩 and got a much-needed soul rinse before rushing off to sin city. We celebrated the birthday of one of our most dedicated congregants and she was out there early too (and not hot despite the fullsuit!). Max had the best homemade shirt I’ve ever seen representing the “chipmunkness” of our favorite QQ who brought many a German. Zoe joined the circle and found the cutest mini mug in a free library box. @fitstop_playadelrey @andreshansen is going to give away a free membership for a month to a Spicoli, so if you’re interested in that, hit him up! Ben and Justin (Groth) all have their favorite types of mugs for coffee drinking. Other Justin (Neill) is making progress with his DBS. Only got to give Kam a hug. Ash showed up with a status change and bells on for bday girl VP who brought her baby brother and his gf who hadn’t surfed much. Didn’t get the chance to catch up with Jess and Nick had to hear my favorite story about my brother. Amanda was there super early and Tory got out there on the little self-made fish to get barreled (Tory, don’t listen to Ben). Anthony is finishing a film reel that’s all about him. Olivia is scrambling to make the photo and I’m scrambling to get things done before Vegas. Happy Birthday VP; you’re a ray. Playing out a song for the first time live is a super vulnerable moment and I can’t thank everyone enough who come through to support and share those moments with me :)

As an artist you spend weeks to months listening to the same song over and over, getting more numb to it with every listen. You send it out to family and close friends to get a read but even then it feels like it’s their job to tell you that they like it regardless of how it really sounds. And you continue to sew those seeds of doubt cuz you’re always going to be your worse critique

But sobering moments like these help wash that self doubt away and I’m thankful for every opportunity that comes my way :)

We got more songs loading in the queue and picturing ur smiling faces & the energy you bring in these small moments inspire me to continue to make more & grow with every ID🫶🏽

Twenty six Spicolis showed up to unexpectedly large SW swell from 205. Solid lefts off the jetty with @matinicusn and @anthonydenitto surprised me and I had a total blast. @maxabillionmusic and @pjohansson_ missed the photo because they were shredding although Paulina overthunk the rocks. @billwaunders also missed the photo but we celebrated the birthdays of Amanda and Quincy who both gave wonderful speeches. Lifeguards showed up with Kate in tow for the first time in a while. Hope and Averi showed up and I talked to Averi about whether social media is the only way to connect with fans. Charlotte’s wetsuit legs are too long; @justoffthemark is back and is newly employed; Zoe is getting her Oasis tix and can fly standby. Kam has to get on it early because of the new job. Viktoria is gonna grab my board from La Julianna who’s off to Brazil (have so much fun!). Ben’s back into the hectic chaos but also training for a Tri; Tory is reppin the big 🍎; Alex won his soccer game last night; Vanessa is surfing early with Charlotte; and Leo’s getting spotted by the Bruins on the street. Big changes in the air but that’s the only constant and there’s always good and gratitude with context. Pete and Fontaines and Myles and Frank and Charlie. And may all your favorite bands stay together. Shred on, Spicoli ⚕️🎶🐸🌊

Gorgeous crystal clear turquoise water with zero wind and a very short interval NW windswell greeted us this morning with a medium tide and a couple dolphins cruising by. Waves were there but infrequent and close together. A couple gems were in the rough though. Julianna was the surf crew car security this week (feel better yo); Viktoria is headed to a film festival; Max doesn’t know what he’d look like without his beard; Nick brought his good vibes even though he doesn’t drink coffee; Ash made the photo for the first time; Ashlyn’s off on tour; Justin said something inappropriate that should have made this post but I missed it - but how can you blame him when he’s hanging around VP who is lamenting our new parking lot that no longer has port-o-potties. Kam was giving a lesson while Paulina had a matching sweater and told us stories of her competitiveness and telepathy; Uncle Alex was rocking the runpdr shirt; QQ needs someone to do dishes and Zoe is rocking out to Sam Fender; Ben and Sammy are talking nonsense; and Ioulia doesn’t mind a feathered staff on her lap. Hula films at Hawaiian festivals and life has come full circle. So many showed up to school after the bell… @zomygahd & @sjhipp, Vaughn @blackballbrewing; @itsyourfetish who I saw get some great waves; @maxabillionmusic; Kam’s student; @brothawoods.1096 @jstnquiane and their crew who had one donut and brought 4 people. Calling attendance at 31 on a truly beautiful Friday. We’ve been fairly consistent with above 30 people every week all summer and it’s just epic. Have a fantastic weekend everyone and keep shredding on 🤙🏼

@dreskull @yetibeats @pjohansson_ @maxabillionmusic @ashhdobe @amandacoscarelli and @anthonydenitto didn’t make the photo but brought attendance to a very healthy 32 on a hot day with the best waves we’ve ever had at surf crew. Pulled up and saw some kid on rip curl get barreled then hit the lip and then pull a reverse. Never in 6 years of crew have I seen waves as good as the early morning lefts today. Rumor has it that Paulina got an overhead bomb, @maxack37 and his friend (tag?) got out on the early. Other Max got pumped up to his music in the parking lot and stayed out for the photo. Ben is appreciating the slow work life. Viktoria rode a hard top and surfed for her third or fourth time this week. Alex is loving the weather while Ashlyn is incorporating dance into her art. La Juliana has one more week before she’s off to Brazil and QQ wants to understand the charts. Nick has my favorite Beer shirt and Mark is back for more. Ioulia and Wholia might be sisters. Bill has a tripod setup and Kam brought a friend and a sister (tags?). VP has a Guinness, Max has Mendoza nightmares, Justin loves Camino Cielo, the Lifeguards are back and Sammy has hats. So fun to see everyone and have such an incredible day of weather and surf. Have a great weekend, Spicoli 🤙🏼

72 degree water on a hot sunny day to remember with a nice combo swell and fun peaks all over the beach. @christopherrnagel @donovangriffinfilms @laurennttaylor @averimazi @hopemazi and @billwaunders didn’t make the photo. Solid total attendance of at least 32! @shantkurdian @taran_mitchell @asap_furb @nickmanzek and @maxack37 clocked in for the early crew. And @bevhealthyliving came for the very first time. @kameron.vogt is back from his scheduleless road trip with @anthonydenitto who has an epic new song out today. Taran is still in town and needs a board and a ride. @quincyzp had to go pick up a friend from surgery but it’s not a handless fellow. @zo.zo9 stuck around and wants to know about Ka’au Crater Boys. Furb got a sick new stick. Alex was repping the Mescal. Ioulia brought her oldest friend Kathleen who took epic b&w photos. Paulina is trying to bend her knees inwards to get drive. Fetish has a song every 3 weeks but no content plan. @taran_mitchell needs a ride. @torybig needs to surf every day because of @benramirez818. I saw @hopemazi and @averimazi standing up — so sick guys - Chris was frothing too hard to stick around for the photo (don’t blame him), and @jneill10 is back after his Deep Brain Stimulation; he’s not in the water yet but will be soon!! “24 total Spicolis came to shred the gnar (small baby waves - but some weren’t so baby 🫣). For maybe the first time ?ever? we retook the picture - which felt wrong but we had to bend the rules a little bit because how could we not retake it after @joncarlvera came back to surf after his send off!! The crew was sharing the most beautiful memories of our sunshine girl @sydneytowle 💛, giving some much needed hugs, @sammybakesss was a little suspicious of @benramirez818 ’s surfing cow sunscreen - did it do the trick Sammy?, @maxabillionmusic traded in his wetsuit for a jersey, @nataliejaenna made an appearance after a long surf crew hiatus. I felt so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people, let’s do it again next Friday?”

Had to honor Noah Faye’s middle namesake with a sad but fun trip to the sunshine state to visit MM & PP. No surf on the riviera, but lots and lots of swimming and Noey is officially a swimmer now. Missed the crew but so stoked to see such a solid showing. 17 in the photo and not pictured were @sammybakesss @tylie.thecreator @christopherrnagel and @laurennttaylor + from what I can tell from @shantkurdian’s video, he @asap_furb and @nickmanzek were the early crew (?!). Twenty five in the photo brings attendance to a solid 31 Spicolis on a bangin summer Friday with the tiniest bit of NW windswell to break up the inconsistent Genevieve sets coming from the southwest. First timer @sulingmondavi my cousin (actually technically my Auntie) brought her ripping son Harrison and her incredible daughter Veronica who has been so kind to my groms, and her best friend from Singapore @lexpijuan — who stood up on two waves. Siri is back after a long hiatus living in Japan; both Charlottes showed up; Fetish sat out the back to get the sets; Lauren just needed some tips on getting into the wave earlier so she didn’t pearl; @billwaunders is back and making progress; Max might come to Vegas and went for a swim with Nick; other Max was out shredding before all of us; Quinlan had a good week; @nmb73399 showed again despite the long bike ride; was good to have Walter back; QQ got the last of the coffee; Anthony has apparently been busy; Scott came back and brought new face Chelsea; Vanessa is taking good care of Hutch even though he’s waking her up 4x and Ash is taking the foamie home. Nothing quite like a Summer Friday with fun waves, warm water, and good people. Shred on.

About a year ago, @joncarlvera approached me after crew and asked if he could talk to me. I said of course, and he explained that he had been dealing with a really difficult period, and that Crew was the one place that he felt like he could be himself and where he felt he belonged and he thanked me for starting it. I remember I came home that day and said to my wife that a young man said something really nice to me that day. Over the next year, JC showed all of us what happens when you give authentically to a community….you make friends.

71 degree water (what!?) and sideshorey wind meant for a few fun peaks but not much on a good beginner’s day at the spot. Vaughan shaped a freshie with a unique nose; Niko is determined to get better and made serious strides at a few lessons in Portugal - we need to find him a coach; new face Charlotte was the only surfer I saw in a fullsuit and she told me she was warm; Ash does not want Argentina to win but she wants the Copa to stay in South America; Justin is facing life head on and regaining his confidence; Vanessa understands the process and is avoiding a portion of the ocean; Juliana is not traveling anymore; Holden is surfing and needs a foamie (whattt?); Nick is sneaking around a card for his friend; Hope and Averi are back and at least one is going swimming in the warm water; Josh has his freshie like Vaughan but it’s a foamie; Amanda, Ashlyn and so many others helped us send off JC as he starts the next phase of his life. With @tylie.thecreator and her Boo and a few others who showed up late, I’m going to call attendance at 30.

JC, Crew won’t be the same without you, friend. I look forward to seeing you when we are meant to see you next. Stay safe, brother.
