so, a recap of this account’s “2024 best of” (or, “favorites”) is here. reminder - this excludes all TLR titles so don’t be surprised by those absences and also reissues this year (like the saints box for instance). we have the above as reminders of the sorts of great stuff that came out this year but also must remember that things like years are constructs - music rules no matter when it came out, you can constantly discover stuff, old, “old” or new. these documents are always here to relish when you need them. here’s to a 2025 full of great stuff. i know what i have on tap for TLR and cannot wait to see what else is out there as well...

on these last few business days of 2024 (and, if i’m being honest, this will likely spill over into the first few business days of 2025) i’ve assembled my favorite releases of 2024. first off is the hard driving rocker that is “gospel jamming volume 1” from the exorzist III. to paraphrase my bud @currincy in reference to the great @objecthours, this is the sort of music that makes you want to buy a sports car and drive it so fast that it crashes while you walk away unharmed. high power, top shelf. one of my favorites of 2024.

With the “Holiday Seasonal Affective Disorder Season” now officially upon us no doubt you’ll be needing some down ’n’ dirty ear-shattering brain-pounding skull-scraping consciousness-obliterating rock ’n’ roll to help purge the memory of your Alcoholic Uncle trying to convert you to QAnon and to help digesting all that leftover cold turkey.

But without going cold turkey of course because you’ll wanna down a couple belts of single-barrel bourbon whiskey before cranking up Gospel Jamming vol. 1, which is the new rekkid by the avant-punk-freejazz-skronk-jam-band-minus-the-noodle-dancing-power-trio known as The Exorzist III, a rekkid that’ll stuff your skull full of a pulverizing wall of sound that’ll block the ability to mentally process anything other than the glorious cacophony entering your earholes.

🍽🧔🏻🎧🥃💀👺👩‍⚕️ 🔘

The Exorzist III is a power trio in its purest form that dispenses with unnecessary frivolities such as having a singer, focusing instead on rhythmically-and-sonically-intense explorations that range from tense horror movie soundtrack type textures to all-out eviscerating tsunamis of sound.

Speaking of horror movies and evisceration, savvy readers may notice that the band’s name is only one letter removed from The Exorcist III, a movie Jeffrey Dahmer reportedly played for some of his victims right before murdering them to death, and a movie that features both Fabio and Patrick Ewing in cameo roles playing angels (!) and did I mention the rekkid’s cover art features a shot of the creepy mortician from the Phantasm series of movies?

🍽🧔🏻🎧🥃💀👺👩‍⚕️ 🔘

Anyway, if you listen to Gospel Jamming vol. 1 you’ll get why these guys would associate themselves with two brutal-yet-beautiful-in-a-surreally-psychedelic-kind-of-way flicks such as these. And if you wanna hear their music and watch some related scary movie clips and read more about it all in full uncensored gory detail then just click on the bio-link but don’t say you weren’t warned…

Rule Number 8 when photographing bands. Do not leave out the drummer. Especially this hard hitting pounder @nickferran His impeccable feel and timing matched with appropriate placement sets him apart. If you know me, you’ve seen me air drum, and in my head I sound like him. Drummers typically don’t get a lot of love from photographers, they’re in the back, in low light and they’re moving around constantly.

Nick Ferrante, drummer extraordinaire, being informed of Silent Stereo Recording Studio’s updated neighborhood compliance act. Den said something like, it’s ribbon microphone related but doesn’t affect the tube condenser microphones. So long as the neighbor’s dryer sheets are basil scented from Mrs Meyer, we should be good. Or something like that...😂. 🥁🏆🥵🥁
