Visual storytelling in film — shaping perspective and tension through restraint. By showing less and letting the audience fill in the blanks, we tap into something more impactful: imagination.

It’s a mirror shot — and everyone knows cinematographers are to mirrors what moths are to a flame.

In the top frame, the subject appears small in the mirror, boxed in by the frame. He’s centered but distant, visually scaled down. The composition suggests a loss of control and diminished agency. It’s observational — building suspense through anticipation.

In the next frame, he reaches into his mouth to remove a tooth. The camera doesn’t shy away. It’s handheld, frenetic, and confrontational in its proximity — generating a visceral sense of unease.

Then the cutaway: his hand on the sink. The camera lingers on ordinary details. We’re distanced from the act itself. We don’t see it — but we feel it. That’s restraint doing its job.

Title: Premonition (2023)

Wow @nickvmarchuk is a miracle worker! Doing a photoshoot in between takes!

You should definitely get him to take your photo, especially if he can make someone like ME look less jet lagged 😂

I am grateful to work with you and to have you as a friend!
