Saw black man today at bboywe's ground zero event and I realized there is SO MUCH to be said and documented about the history of street dance in Oworonshoki and its neighbors Sawmill/lfako/Gbagada.

Why “Back to Ground Zero” Means So Much to Me

I was born in Bariga, raised in Sawmill, Ifako-Gbagada, and came to understand life in Oworonshoki. My dance journey began on Adeite Street in Sawmill, where I spent years teaching myself acrobatics between 2004 and 2010.

Bringing Back to Ground Zero to this community is deeply personal because this is where it all started for me. It’s my way of giving back to the place that shaped my dreams and believing in the next generation that will rise from these same streets.

We never know where the next great talent will come from. The next Valu, B-Boy Alfa, or another extraordinary dancer could be a child from this neighbourhood, just waiting for an opportunity and someone to believe in them.

I also reflect on the early days when Tope, Dummy, Jethro, and I danced together as Salvation Soldiers before they joined Dance Elements. In 2007, I went on to establish Dynamic Stepper alongside Kelvin, Sandra, Ifeanyi, and myself, continuing the journey with a vision of our own.

I owe immense gratitude to the pioneers and mentors who guided and inspired us along the way—Victor Oyibode, Maxwell, Ibokun, Bethel Victor, Faith, Tobacco, Dflex, Gbenga, B-Boy Paul, and Star Flames. Your impact will never be forgotten.

This outreach is more than an event. It is a homecoming, a celebration of our roots, and an investment in the future of dance.

Maximum respect to everyone who paved the way.
