By staying silent, we risk protecting the wrong people.

We need to stand together to create a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment across the ocean tourism and expedition industry, where everyone feels comfortable and safe, whether travelling solo or as a couple, experienced or just starting out.

No one should have to navigate this industry with fear or uncertainty about their safety.

Let’s stand together, speak up, and make a change. The ocean should unite us, never make us feel unsafe.

With everything currently coming to light in the freediving and ocean safari community, I feel it’s important to speak up.

I remember reading the “Talk Like TED” book 12 years ago because I wanted to glean every insight possible about public speaking. And I wanted to be on that stage one day.

Now, I talk in two weeks for @tedxvictoria.ca. I can’t disclose what it’s about 😈 but I can say that it’s a love letter to my community and the wellspring of inspiration of a place I call home and @surfrider_canada

I’ve loved public speaking since I was a kid. The first speech I did competitively was on schizophrenia when I was in grade 7, and I lost to someone who did theirs on keychains 🫠 It taught me a valuable lesson that’s stayed with me: I’m driven to speak about hard topics, and for it to land, delivery is everything. My speaking coach @iamshanehewitt said: people may not remember every single thing you said, but they’ll remember how you made them feel.

So I’ve made it my mission to communicate about the environment and climate in a way that’s accessible, solutions oriented, fun, compelling, silly, self deprecating because I’m far from fcking perfect, and inclusive. And I get to put everything I’ve learned so far on this mission into this talk.

I wanted to make this post to say thank you to everyone who has helped me get here to do one of the things that makes me feel most alive and in service to this world. Our success is a blossom grown from the hands, hearts and minds of others who contribute to making our dreams a reality.

Thanks to my mum @jllwoodbury, my late father Michael Poole, my brother Clay, Krysten & all my family @clayduc
My closest friends who lift me up and inspire me constantly, I’ll tag you in the images because there so many of you lol
