5 Books that Everyone Should Read…at least once…according to me (and I’m using my dogs to convince you). Thanks @booksandbasilisks for the tag ♥️

📚The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
📚Duma Key by Stephen King
📚The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
📚Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
📚The Poet Empress by Shen Tao

These aren’t all my favorite books (The Poet Empress is tricky for me-if you saw my review you know), but that doesn’t mean they aren’t necessary and that I don’t adore them all for various reasons.
ALSO-don’t come for me; it’s called an opinion people. AND-did the dogs work?

⁉️Tell me your 5⁉️

I’ve been gobbling up horror books this season, and here are four that I HIGHLY recommend!

The Haar (ghoul like creature)
From Below (haunted shipwreck)
A Head Full of Ghosts (possession)
The Winter People (ghosts)

I have a more in depth reel coming up, but this was too fun to resist.

September books were 🔥🔥🔥
Here’s my reading wrap up.

How much I read per month is so unpredictable. To put it in perspective, in July, I read 3 books. September, I read 11. There’s no way for me to predict how much I’ll read, but the romantasies were so so good, the fantasies were perfection, the horrors were gripping, and the classic was as heartbreaking as I remembered. This month I’ve had a lot on my mind, and so clearly, I lost myself in books.

Also, this month, @bookaroundfindout received a special package from me, because she is the kind of friend that when you ask her to do something a little nutty to help you with your book, she screams, “Yes!” I cannot wait to share more on this.

Books I read in September:

Romantasy-
Blood & Steel (the legends of thezmarr)
Kiss of the Black Flame
Silvercloak
The Dark In Her Veins

Fantasy-
The Legend of Uh (feel good fantasy)
The Familiar (dark fantasy, borderline gothic, slow burn romance)

Horror-
From Below
A Head Full of Ghosts
There’s Something in the Walls
The Haar

Classic-
Metamorphosis

There were some that were exceptional but honestly, I enjoyed them all! Main characters that felt so alive, books that made me laugh and one that made me cry.

What was your favorite book from September? Do you read more or less when you have a lot on your mind?

Ninth House by @lbardugo

The buddy read officially wrapped up last week, and I am completely obsessed. I knew I was going to like this one, but the level of enjoyment? Through the roof.

Yes, the beginning starts off a little slow. But trust me, it’s all with a purpose. It sets the tone, builds that immaculate dark academia atmosphere, and keeps you guessing "what the hell is going on right now!?." Once the plot starts plotting, and you're set in the present timeline, it is practically impossible to put down.

And Alex Stern? Elite FMC material. She’s gritty, beautifully flawed, and dealing with a heavy past, yet she still brings just enough snark and humor to balance out the shadows.

Give me all the dark vibes, paranormal happenings, and occult mysteries. I am officially strapping in for Hell Bent immediately.

Have you stepped into Yale’s secret societies yet, or is Ninth House still sitting on your TBR?

Thanks to @litwithgabs @nicoledecory for the good times. And even though @goodscribesandgoodvibes joined in after we were finished, I know Hell Bent is going to treat us all right!

Let’s talk about how creating bookish content is actually contributing to the literacy crisis …

Except, that’s a very weird take and it’d be great if people stopped throwing buzz words around to feel superior 🧍‍♀️

Anyway, here are some amazing bookish accounts to follow depending on your personal preferences, because we are adults who can simply follow or unfollow to see more of what we enjoy 🖤

W͟.͟I͟.͟T͟.͟C͟.͟H͟ ͟C͟h͟a͟l͟l͟e͟n͟g͟e͟ ͟🧛🏻‍♀️🕷️☠️ 🔮

This feels ready made for me. I pride myself on being a woman that would have been burned at the stake. A woman who won’t stay quiet and refuses to set herself on fire to keep others warm. A woman who is made stronger by the women around her, and knows she can draw on their strength when she feels like she cannot draw on her own.

“The magic of men was called religion and science, while the magic of women was witchery, always suspect, always hidden.”
-Alice Hoffman, The Witches of Cambridge

It was about time Dr. Betty made an appearance for this auspicious month. The best time of the year is here. Insomnia does have its perks ☠️😂🤡.

What I’m currently reading:

📚Last week I finished The Legend of Uh and The Familiar with an awesome crew. The Legend of Uh was so much fun, a fantastic compliment to the Familiar, which was a dark and tense historical fantasy, with an exploration of Spain’s persecution during the Inquisition, paired with a magical competition. FANTASTIC!

I finished Silvercloak earlier this week, and it had awesome world building! The ending had me pumped for book 2.

Up next:
🐺 Still chipping away at Assassin’s Quest. I think I’m the last one 😅
🧚 Ditto for crescent city. Enjoying both, but for same reason it’s just taking me a while.
🌙 The Knave and the Moon. I just love Rachel Gillig’s writing! And I’m so excited to be back with Bartholomew.
📕 And starting ninth house today!
Also, I’m not seeing some people’s posts, so if you have one that you want to make sure I see, feel free to DM it to me! I don’t want to miss your updates 🫶 they’re why I’m here.
