This month, three books landed on my desk within a few weeks of each other, and I ended up in all three.

Alphabettes Soup: Feminist Approaches to Type just came out to mark @alphabettes_org’s 10th birthday, edited by @amypapaelias and published by @bikini.books. I have a piece in it about Alphacrit, and about how organizing those sessions with @nicoledotin as part of @alphabettes_org eventually led us to found @practicatype. Reading it back next to the other 54 pieces in the book made me realize how much of what I do started as a conversation with one person before it became a program.

The book features copy and line editing by Caren Litherland, coordination by @paimnina, and design by @terezabettinardi.

Slanted #47—Digital Tools is also out, with an interview Lars Harmsen of @slanted_publishers did with @ameacute and me about @glyphsapp, called “Glyphs and the evolving practice of multiscript and variable type design.” @mariannapaszkowska and @azalam add their own perspectives in the same issue, so it ends up being less about one tool and more about how differently we all use it.

And then there’s the third edition of @yuuuuuuuuulia’s How Many Female Type Designers Do You Know? — I Know Many and Talked to Some!, published by @setmargins. I already had a copy, but Yulia made some adjustments for this edition. Thank you, Yulia, for sending me the new version—and for making the work of women in type more visible.

Three books, one month, and somehow all three are about the same thing from different angles: who gets to be in the room, what tools do to the way we think, and what happens when you keep talking to the same people long enough that you end up building something together.
