Usually we make videos about happy subjects but this definitely wasn't one of those days. This is the reality of what’s happening in Makoko, Lagos.

This is Makoko, a fishing village that was built on top of the water in Lagos, Nigeria. Known as the "Venice of West Africa". This community has been here for over 100 years but without warning or any kind of eviction notice, the government came in to tear it down by force resulting in deaths, displacement of thousands of people and the disappearance of people who stood in their way.

As of today Makoko has not been completely destroyed but their struggle for survival continues. Their future is still uncertain. I hope that exposing what is really happening can help add to the pressure on the Nigerian government to treat this community with some dignity and if it's not possible for Makoko to continue to exist as it is, at the very least make a real plan to relocate them properly.

This video was made with consent from Makoko community leaders. I didn't think flying the drone was a good idea but the son of the community chief wanted me to in order to expose the reality of what they are going through.

My real ones know how much work I put into making this @shapeskatefoundation Nigeria Skate tour happen. It was basically my treflip down El Toro 😄

Major Shout Out to @skatejawn for highlighting some of the tour photos in their recent Issue 91. Go grab a copy to check out the full article or you can also view the web version in the link in my bio. Along with the “DC to Naija” Tour Video!

Thank you to everyone that helped me make this possible! Especially my late mom and dad. I know now everything happened for a reason and was glad I could honor them in this way. ❤️🕊️
