Coming for The Charlatans? Excellent choice. But don’t stop there.

Half the fun of Rockaway is arriving with a list of bands you love and leaving Bognor wondering how another five managed to sneak onto it.

So, The Charlatans are your starting point. Where next you ask…

⚫️ Swim Deep: British indie that’s spent more than a decade refusing to sit still. Big songs, beautiful melodies and plenty to lose yourself in.

⚫️ Nightbus: Manchester after dark. Post-punk, electronics and the strange bit of the night between the dancefloor and the journey home.

⚫️ Vona Vella: guitars, gorgeous intertwined vocals and indie-pop with a little more bite than you might expect.

⚫️ City Parking: Sheffield, Memories of the Motorway, and your chance to do Rockaway properly: wander in curious and come out with another name firmly underlined.

Who are you coming for? We’ll tell you where to go next.

Just announced: Nightbus (@nightbus__) arrive at ICA this December 🌑

Manchester’s brooding, cinematic two-piece fuse post-punk, trip-hop and late-night electronica into something dark, hypnotic and entirely their own. Their sound captures the anxious beauty of city life after hours – dripping in atmosphere, bass-heavy and emotionally raw.

Echoes of The Knife, Portishead, early Cure, Chromatics and The xx run through their sound – but Nightbus are carving out a space of their own.

🗓️ Fri 11 Dec, 7:30pm
🎫 Tickets at ica.art and dice.fm

Presented by FORM (@formpresents).

OG OR MAN 140 – Goodbye Dolly

On @steamradio-mcr https://steam-mcr.com/ on Sunday at 3pm, and uploaded on Mixcloud and Totallyradio later. Link in bio.

Goodbye Dolly (Parton) – bet no one else has thought of that one yeah?

No doubt better people than I (yeah, I know there’s loads of them, thanks) will do full justice to the big-haired, big-nailed, big everything serial hitmaker, film star, businesswoman and philanthropist, but in the month of Manchester Psych Fest…

..this show leans inevitably into psych. From loads of artists who played psych fest and some who didn’t, plus some pop a la mode, early electronica and Victorian literature (in the same track), cavernous drone from a cave in Essex and more weird stuff from Todmorden.

And one track by Dolly. And none by Angine de Poitrine, because I’d have to make you queue 2 hours to listen to it. Only fair to the many benighted Psych Fest attendees who had to do just that.

Tracklist spotted in the comments.

OG OR MAN – music to put you in a right mood.
