Well folks, No Home is out in the world today.

Finding the right words to sum this up in an Instagram caption is proving to be quite difficult, so I’ll say this..

There’s a real thread being pulled here, on this record, that also runs through my life. In the past I’ve tried my best to cover it up, cut it out, or have someone else stitch it up. Letting it unravel has spared me a lot of pain.

Writing and recording this album freed me from so much noisy shame that I’ve walked around with for most of my life (gay?). Even the freedom and beauty I had found in making music had shown me a certain strain of doubt and ugliness that somehow still shocks me everytime it comes knocking.
But, I don’t know, I just felt different making this one.
I felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

It’s all about observing this push and pull of a relationship, whether romantic, familial, or with the self, and seeing what you will make of what you’ve been given. It’s about changing the perspective on your own pain and defeat, and recognizing that that defeat has a seed that was planted, and it grew into the life around you. And although it’s not your fault, it’s your responsibility now.
It all goes back to this feeling of wanting to belong to someone or somewhere, wanting to belong in your own body.
I hope you find something in it

Friendship and creativity, it’s the whole point:
Endlessly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you to Dave, Adam, Jack, Seth, Jacob, Barrett, Lawson, Robbie, Mary, David at @royaloakie , Emily, and Stepan.

Holy shit I’m a singer

All of this is yours,
Love lane

@thewarondrugs busted out this 💎 new jam - second time ever - called "Now We're Talking" and dedicated it to the #1 bedwetting fan. Amazing. Can't wait for this record. Thanks to AG, @pizzamcq & my friends in band and crew for letting me tag along the last few days. ❤️❤️❤️

3 concerts. 4 days. 3 states. 1,476 miles. Roughly 24 hours in the car. And somehow, every mile was worth it. 🖤🎶

Delaware ➡️ NYC ➡️ North Carolina.

Harry Styles and The War on Drugs. Three shows packed into four completely insane, exhausting, unforgettable days.

But the best part is everything that happened in between.

I got to do all of this with one of my great friends — someone I never would have even met if it weren’t for The War on Drugs. And now my daughter gets to come along for the ride and experience this crazy little music-loving world with us. 🥹

And then North Carolina happened…

We decided to make our love for this band a little more permanent and got matching War on Drugs tattoos inspired by “Occasional Rain.” 🌧️

We walk out of the tattoo shop, fresh tattoos and all, and almost immediately RUN INTO THE GUITARIST FROM THE WAR ON DRUGS. 😂

Because apparently the universe decided this story wasn’t ridiculous enough yet.

We showed him the tattoos, told him what we had just done, and got a picture with him. Then we headed to the show thinking THAT would obviously be the story we’d be telling forever.

Nope.

We make it to the show, and before they play “Occasional Rain,” THE BAND TALKS ABOUT THE THREE WOMEN WHO GOT MATCHING TATTOOS… and then dedicates the song to us. 😭🌧️🎶

The song that inspired the tattoos.
The band that brought our friendship together.
My daughter there experiencing it all with us.
And 1,476 miles of memories packed into four days.

I genuinely don’t know how we’ll ever top this adventure.

Some occasional rain, a whole lot of music, and one hell of a story we’ll be telling forever. 🖤🌧️🎶

When Dave Hartley (@nightlands)’s @thewarondrugs bandmates migrate to Asheville, where he and his family have lived for nearly eight years, his worlds collide.

Whether to track at @echomountainrecording or @_dropofsun_, or to perform shows like tomorrow night’s headlining appearance at @ashevilleyards, with the fantastic @okonski opening, the lines blur in a good way.

“It's like my career shows up at my house every two years,” the bassist told me minutes before soundcheck for a tour-opening show in Wilmington, Del. “‘Bring your career to home day’ as opposed to ‘bring your kid to work day.’”

Earlier this month, the Philadelphia-formed, now geographically scattered band released its first new music in five years. "Who's That" is a synth-drenched first taste of the Drugs’ forthcoming sixth album — and, per frontman Adam Granduciel, a song about the private negotiation between self-doubt and self-acceptance written one morning in the minutes between his first sip of coffee and school-drop-off.

For Hartley, the release doubles as a reset button heading into a short tour anchored by marquee slots at festivals such as Austin City Limits, Bourbon & Beyond, and Sea.Here.Now.

“It feels like a nice jolt of excitement to put the single out — kind of like a reminder to the world that we’re here and cooking stuff up,” he says. “It’s been fun to get a lot of great feedback on the tune.”

I spoke with Hartley about the band's evolving chemistry after 20 years together and more. Read the interview, via @ashevillestages, at the link my stories/bio.

It’s crazy to think that we’ve been in each others path for such a meaningful amount of time. I am beyond proud of all of us. We are conquering our goals and projects at the same time as we are conquering ourselves.

Go check out @guajiroavl After all they went through Helene, they are up and running. So much passion and effort to get here!! And their food is so good!!!!! They have the best hot sauce in AVL (so good)

And go and check out “who’s that” the new single for @thewarondrugs So inspiring and wonderful.

Grateful for life, for keep showing up and for all the amazing things we are all creating.

Stubbs. The World Ender. 🖤

We were so lost when he left us, but we can’t help but smile thinking about how completely he lived… fast, fearless, and with absolutely no regard for the rules. Halloween was his favorite, he loved all things hellish, and even his grumbles sounded like a tiny zombie.

He owned every place he went, especially our neighborhood. And from the moment we realized what an absolute hellion we had, “Arms Like Boulders” became Stubbs’ song.

So when we see @thewarondrugs in a few weeks, Stubbs is coming with us, around my neck, where he belongs. 🖤

And just in case it makes the setlist:

“… now that you realized that planets are spheres,
with oil on the inside.
And your god is only a catapult,
waiting for the right time to let you go…
into the unknown…
just to watch you, hold your breath… and surrender your fortress”

Love working with @markaneeley ! We’ve gotten to collaborate the last few years on the “Blurry Eyes” vid and some fun merch for the album release. Wanted to have another piece of his art on the table for these shows! 🛣️🙌
